49ers trade A.J. Jenkins to Chiefs for Jonathan Baldwin

The Chiefs and 49ers have swapped a pair of disappointing and former first-round wide receivers. The Chiefs have announced the move is official.

As initially tweeted by USA Today's Tom Pelissero, the 49ers have sent A.J. Jenkins, their 2012 first-round pick, to the Chiefs for Jonathan Baldwin, their 2011 first-round pick.

Baldwin's claim to fame is his scuffle with ex-teammate Thomas Jones, but Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has had lofty praise for Baldwin:

As great of a coach as Belichick has been, he's been an equally bad evaluator of wide receiver talent in the NFL draft [see Chad Jackson, Taylor Price, etc.]. And two years into their NFL careers, nobody has confused Baldwin for Julio Jones.

Baldwin has a total of 41 receptions for 579 yards and two touchdowns in two seasons while Jenkins still has no regular-season receptions.

Both should have an opportunity to make an impact, but we'll see if the change of scenery motivates them enough to take advantage of them. While both will likely go undrafted in most 12-team leagues, I'd prefer Baldwin over Jenkins if I were going to take a late-round flier on one of them.
