Denver Post's Kiszla: Broncos starting RB "cannot be" Ronnie Hillman

We are only 11 days away from the NFL regular-season opener between the Broncos and Ravens and Mark Kiszla of the Denver Post has an opinion on who the Broncos' starting running should (not) be.

Although Ronnie Hillman currently sits atop the team's depth chart, Kiszla writes, "In the race for starting running back, only one thing is certain: It cannot be Hillman."

Fumbles by Hillman in back-to-back weeks have led to touchdowns for the opposition.

While rookie Montee Ball is the most talented of the team's rushers, Kiszla writes that with Ball's ability to pass protect being "a work in progress," Knowshon Moreno as starter would keep coach John Fox from losing the least amount of sleep.

With a potent passing attack led by Peyton Manning and a trio of 1,000-yard receivers (Demaryius Thomas, Eric Decker and Wes Welker), pass protection is as, or more, important than running the ball.

Ball is (and will continue to be) my highest-ranked Broncos running back, but he also appeared on list of potential fantasy football busts. When I update my rankings later today, I will move Moreno up and Hillman down.

Considering John Fox's use of committee backfields and Ball's ability to pass protect, however, I'd prefer to avoid all Broncos runners.
