Hakeem Nicks being "smart about" his groin tightness
Even if it has led to frustration for others, Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks (groin) says he is just being "smart about" sitting out of practice until he's fully healthy.
In addition, he described his groin tightness as something that wouldn't keep him out if he were preparing for the season opener.
“If it was a game-planning situation, and we were going into Week 1, I definitely don’t think I’d be sitting out or nothing like that,” Nicks said, per Ebenezer Samuel of the NY Daily News. “But with it being early in training camp, we just want to be smart about it.”
Plagued by injuries all of last season, Nicks set career lows in games played (13), receiving yards (692), yards per reception (13.1) and receiving touchdowns (three).
In addition, he's entering a contract year and obviously wants to position himself for a big payday.
Provided he stays healthy for a full season, he has the talent to be a top-five fantasy wide receiver and a huge bargain compared to his current ADP (WR17, 50th overall - via Fantasy Pros).
That said, he has never played 16 games in a season and is already dealing with an injury, albeit a minor one.
In my fantasy football wide receiver rankings, I have Nicks (14th) behind Victor Cruz (10th) and think that Rueben Randle, who has had a great offseason thus far, has the potential for a breakout season, especially if (when) Nicks gets hurt.
