Michael Vick named Week 1 starter for Eagles

The announcement comes as little surprise, but it's now official.

New Eagles coach Chip Kelly has announced that Michael Vick — not Nick Foles (or rookie Matt Barkley) — will be the team's starting quarterback Week 1 against the Redskins on Monday Night Football.

"I think Mike is ahead right now," Kelly said, per Zach Berman of the Philadelphia Inquirer. "I think Nick made it very difficult, though. It wasn't where it one guy went north and one guy went south. I think both guys upped their games. But at this point in time, I think Mike's ahead. And we want to move forward. This is a one-quarterback operation. This isn't going to be someone's going to look over their shoulder, or we're going to alternate by series."

In two preseason games running Kelly's offense, Vick is 13-of-15 passing (86.7 percent) for 199 yards, one touchdown and one interception and has rushed twice for 20 yards.

Of course, the primary drawback with Vick is his durability. In his three seasons as a starter in Philadelphia, Vick has played in only 35 games including just 10 last season.

With fantasy quarterback as deep as it is, Vick is a high-upside guy that you could draft late and pair with someone like Eli Manning and Jay Cutler and load up running back and wide receiver depth early.
