Week 3 NFL Picks Against the Spread (Yanotchko)
Here are my Week 3 NFL picks against the spread:
Detroit Lions +1 (over Washington Redskins)
The Redskins have been a team of two halves this year. In the first half, they decide not to show up; in the second half, you have Robert Griffin III passing for 300 yards. The Lions, as usual, are maddeningly inconsistent, as they looked great in beating Minnesota, but they gave away another game they should have had to Arizona last week.
Detroit has had recent success against Washington, as they have gone 2-0 against the spread, and of course the Redskins are 0-2 to start the year against the number as well. I love the matchup of Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson going up against the 23rd-ranked passing defense that has surrendered 311 yards per game and six touchdowns so far.
The Lions have too much firepower against a horrible Washington defense, and if you are given a point than you should take it here.

Green Bay Packers -3 (over Cincinnati Bengals)
Both of these teams come into this game at 1-1, and they have certainly faced some tough early-season tests. The Packers were beat up by the 49ers in Week 1, and of course, destroyed last year's playoff darlings Washington at home.
The Bengals gave the Bears all they could handle Week 1, and made easy work of a shorthanded Steelers team on Monday night. So far this year, the Bengals have really struggled to run the ball, as they average only 62.5 yards per game, and a miniscule 2.8 yards per carry.
The Packers, of course, have the best quarterback in the league, and Aaron Rodgers is up to his usual self by throwing for 407 yards per game and 7 TD's so far this year. The Packers are clearly the better team here, as the Bengals have two injured cornerbacks in PacMan Jones and Dre Kirkpatrick that Rodgers will exploit.
I will give the three points here to the home team as the Packers are the better team.
NY Giants -1.5 (over Carolina Panthers)
I am sure most people have heard all of the hype in this game, as the loser will be 0-3, and almost certain to miss the playoffs. These types of games (when their backs are against the wall) are where Tom Coughlin and the NY Giants thrive.
The Giants have been dominant against Carolina in recent games, as they have gone 4-1 in their last five against the number. The last two games, Eli Manning hung 36 and 31 points on the Carolina defense, while all the Panthers offense could muster is 25 points total. The Giants defense is geared to stop the Panthers rushing attack, as they only allow 97 yards per game, and 3.7 yards per carry.
The Panthers have also struggled through the air, as Cam Newton has not been able to surpass of 229 yards, and the best receiver has been tight end Greg Olson. The Giants are a much better team, and even though they are laying 1.5 as the road favorite, I will take them outright here.
Five of our contributors make three weekly picks ATS every week and they will be posted here.
