Week 6 Fantasy Football Rankings: Updated Top 80 Wide Receivers

With the exception of Julio Jones, who will miss the rest of the season with a foot injury, no receiver has more receiving yards this year than Baltimore's Torrey Smith.

Through five games, Smith has 27 receptions for 556 yards and one touchdown. His 20.6 yards-per-reception average is second behind Santonio Holmes (24.3) among qualified leaders at wide receiver.

Smith has back-to-back games with 120-plus yards and he has at least 85 receiving yards in all five games this season.

Considering the team's lack of depth at receiver and tight end, Smith has been targeted 51 times, which ranks sixth among wide receivers, and he should consistently be one of the most targeted (and productive) players on a weekly basis.

This week, the Ravens host the Packers, who have allowed the ninth-most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers.

Garbage time should come early for the Jags

Two things are clear this season in the NFL: (1) the Broncos are good and (2) the Jaguars are not. And the teams know it — even if the Jags would prefer to not admit it.

Here was a tweet (and retweets) exchanged between the clubs earlier in the week:

As nearly four-touchdown underdogs, the Jaguars will likely find themselves trailing early and big. With that said, it's good news for the fantasy owners of Cecil Shorts and Justin Blackmon as garbage time could come as early as the second quarter.

Returning from his four-game suspension, Blackmon had five receptions (on nine targets) for 136 yards and a touchdown in his first game this season.

Meanwhile, Shorts leads the NFL in targets (62) through five weeks and has 31 receptions for 411 yards and a touchdown.

Bryant has a four-game scoring streak

No receiver has more fantasy points (standard-scoring leagues) this season than Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant.

Bryant began the season with a dud performance (four catches for 22 yards), but he has scored in each of his past four games for a total of six touchdowns. In three of those four games, he has finished with 20-plus fantasy points.

Over his past 16 games, Bryant has 87 receptions for 1,441 yards and 16 touchdowns.

The Redskins have allowed the fifth-most fantasy points this season and allowed more than 300 receiving yards to wide receivers in games against the Packers and Lions.

Here are some notes on wide receivers:

  • Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas has had at least five receptions and 50 yards in every game this season. That said, he has either had 20-plus fantasy points (twice) or single-digit fantasy points (three times) this season. Teammate Wes Welker has scored in all five games this season and has a league-high seven TDs in five games.
  • Raiders receiver Denarius Moore has three consecutive games with at least 66 receiving yards. During that three-game stretch, he has 15 receptions for 274 yards and two touchdowns.
  • Browns receiver Josh Gordon has 18 receptions for 303 yards and two touchdowns in three games. Over the past two weeks, the Lions have allowed opposing WRs to haul in 27 receptions for 449 yards and three TDs.
  • Since scoring five touchdowns in the first two games of the season, Chargers receiver Eddie Royal barely has that many receptions (seven) and fantasy points (seven) in the past three games.
  • Rams receiver Austin Pettis has a total of four touchdowns in the past four games. Rookie teammate Tavon Austin has had three fantasy points (or less) in each of the past three games.
  • Colts receiver T.Y. Hilton is coming off his best game ever as a Colt — five receptions for 140 yards and two scores. It was Hilton's second 100-yard game of the season, but he had only two catches for 13 yards in the follow-up to his first 100-yard game this season.
  • It's unclear whether Detroit's Calvin Johnson will play on Sunday after sitting out last week. Even if he plays, he may not have one of his typical performances as he faces Cleveland's Joe Haden.
  • After a two-game drought, Eagles receiver DeSean Jackson had his third game of the season with 100-plus yards and a score last week.
  • Panthers receiver Ted Ginn, Jr. has three consecutive games with at least 60 receiving yards.
