Week 7 NFL Picks Against the Spread (Yanotchko)
Here are my Week 7 NFL picks against the spread:
New England Patriots -4 (over New York Jets)
The Patriots are the favorite to lead the year in man games lost to injury, yet they just keep chugging along and are atop the AFC East at 5-1. While this was seen as a rebuilding year for the Jets, they have a credible .500 record, and are developing one of the best defensive lines in football.
Historically, the Patriots have gotten the better of the Jets in the Game 2 of the season series. When they travel to the Meadowlands, they are 11-2 in their last 13 games. The Patriots will get a big red zone factor back this week with Rob Gronkowski, and I love the matchup of Tom Brady going against a passing defense that gives up 272 yards per game,10 TDs, and has only one interception.
The Patriots will throw exotic looks to confuse rookie Geno Smith, as he threw three picks in Week 2. I am laying the 4 points here for the Patriots as they expect to have Gronk back and that will allow Brady to attack up the field.

Chicago Bears +1 (over Washington Redskins)
Normally I do love teams that are coming off their bye week to have the edge, but as the Bears played last Thursday, they had a bit of a mini-bye as well.
Washington hasn't been the same since they have abandoned the read option, and although Alfred Morris has been effective, teams are loading seven in the box to stop him. The Bears are humming on offense, and they get a great matchup versus one of the worst defenses in the league this week. The Redskins passing defense allows 272 yards per game, and also opposing quarterbacks have a 66-percent completion percentage against them. Washington's rush defense is not much better, as they give up 123.4 yards per game, and an unhealthy 4.4 yards per carry.
I love the Bears offense under Jay Cutler and Matt Forte to rack up yards at will against Washington, and of course, they don't have a guy who can cover Brandon Marshall. DeAngelo Hall isn't good at all, he is just expensive.
San Francisco 49ers -3.5 (over Tennessee Titans)
The Titans are the next victim to have to play the NFC West juggernauts back-to-back weeks, as they were pancaked last week in Seattle.
The 49ers were questioned about their toughness after losing to Indy at home, but they have ripped off three straight wins 35-11, 34-3, and 32-20. The 49ers have done it mainly on the ground, and they have a favorable matchup against the Titans rush defense that gives up 111 yards per game and 4.4 yards per carry. While the Niners haven't been as dominant in shutting down the rush as in years past, they still are only allowing 3.8 yards per carry.
Although it looks like Jake Locker will start this week, I think the Titans do not have the offensive firepower to overcome the 49ers defense. The schedule makers have even done us a favor and made this a 4:15 start, so we don't have to worry about this whole west coast team playing at 1 p.m. factor as well.
I will lay the 3.5 for San Francisco, as Tennessee is a good team, but not good enough to hang with the 49ers.
