Jaguars WR Justin Blackmon suspended indefinitely
The Times Square ball... Some extra weight gained during the holidays... The hammer... Jaguars WR Justin Blackmon.
Of course, the thing that ties that list together is that they are all things to drop.
After beginning the season serving a suspension for violating the league's substance-abuse policy, Blackmon will end it the same way — on suspension, albeit a longer one.
At a minimum, Blackmon will be suspended for the remainder of the 2013 season and he will have the ability to apply for reinstatement in 2014.
If you're in a redraft league, you can obviously drop Blackmon.
Here's the statement from general manager David Caldwell: “All of us who are a part of the Jaguars family care very deeply about Justin and his well-being. That said, he must be held accountable and accept the consequences announced today by the NFL. His suspension will provide him the opportunity to receive the attention and professional treatment necessary to overcome his challenges, and we will support him during this time. The Jacksonville Jaguars will evaluate Justin's status once he has successfully met the criteria to be considered for reinstatement to the league.”
Before Blackmon ended his four-game suspension to begin the year, no receiver had more targets than Cecil Shorts.
Going forward, I would expect Shorts to either lead the league in targets or come close. In addition, Mike Brown, who has been productive recently, will see a boost in fantasy value.
