Week 9 NFL Picks Against the Spread (Woodhull)
Here are my Week 9 NFL picks against the spread:
Atlanta Falcons +8 (over Carolina Panthers)
Here's some irony, normally I hate on the Falcons, and I like the Panthers defense, but I'm picking the Falcons?
Carolina's three-game winning streak against the Bucs, Rams and Vikings (combined four wins), and the their prior victory was the Giants — you know them as the team started 0-6 before running off two big wins.
This run by Carolina does not exactly spell Lombardi trophy. Wake me when Carolina beats a .500 team.
Cleveland Browns +2.5 (over Baltimore Ravens)
The Browns defense is starting to look scary good (now that I jinxed them, they'll get lit up for 40) and with Jason Campbell starting they have a mostly-capable QB.
Baltimore can't run the ball, and the Browns are a top-five pass defense. I envision Cleveland grinding out a 10-9 win.

Houston Texans +3 (over Indianapolis Colts)
The Houston zone blocking fits well with the option (see RGIII and Redskins circa last year), which will breed familiarity with Keenum to the system he had at the University of Houston. Also, the Texans strength lies in their pass defense (best in the NFL), which will mute the Colts passing game (also missing Reggie Wayne will hurt).
As for rushing the ball against Houston - it can be done, I just wouldn't trust that task to Trent Richardson, still averaging only 3 yards per carry for the Colts. I love Houston in the spot and I'm picking them to win outright.
