Report: Panthers are trying to trade WR Steve Smith
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Panthers are trying to trade Smith:
The #Panthers are attempting to trade WR Steve Smith, per source. Given his $7M cap number and age (34), seems unlikely.— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) March 10, 2014
As Rapoport notes, it is unlikely that the Panthers will find a willing trade partner given his cap number ($7 million) and age (turns 35 in May). In turn, that means the Panthers are likely to cut Smith at some point after 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
Smith is the all-time leader in franchise history in receptions (836), receiving yards (12,197) and receiving touchdowns (67).
Coming off a disappointing season (64/745/4), Smith still led the team's wideouts in receiving although tight end Greg Olsen led the team in receiving with a line of 73/816/6.
