Browns name Brian Hoyer starting quarterback
“He was the clear leader from the beginning,” [coach Mike] Pettine said. “We’ve maintained all along that if it was close, I would prefer to go with the more experienced player. Brian has done a great job in the meeting rooms and with his teammates on the practice field and in the locker room.”
Assuming that Josh Gordon's season-long suspension is upheld, the Browns have one of the league's worst receiving corps sans Gordon.
Tight end Jordan Cameron should lead the team in receiving, but Andrew Hawkins could be a productive late-round option, especially in PPR formats, and Charles Johnson is a nice sleeper in dynasty (and really deep) leagues.
Opening the season against the Steelers, Saints and Ravens before their Week 4 bye (all NFL bye weeks), the Browns will be underdogs in all three of those games.
Especially if they begin the season with an 0-3 record, it wouldn't be a huge shock if the team decided to make a quarterback switch after their bye if that's the case.
