Detroit Lions NFL Mock Drafts

On this page, you will find all of our picks for the Detroit Lions in Kevin Hanson's 2021 NFL Mock Draft and Brendan Donahue's 2021 NFL Mock Draft.

Lions Picks in Hanson's 2021 NFL Mock

12. Detroit Lions - DeVonta Smith, WR, Alabama

The Lions have signed Tyrell Williams, who missed all of 2020, to a one-year contract this week, but many of the team's top receivers -- Kenny Golladay, Marvin Jones, Danny Amendola, Mohamed Sanu and Jamal Agnew -- are unrestricted free agents as well. In this scenario, the Lions still get the same prospect I mocked to them in my 2021 NFL Mock Draft 4.0, but they add a 2022 second-rounder in the process.

An outstanding route-runner, the sure-handed receiver has been been uber-productive over the past two years. If Smith had declared last year, he would have joined Henry Ruggs and Jerry Jeudy as first-round receivers. This year, he'll join teammate Jaylen Waddle as first-rounders.

Despite the star-studded receiving corps, it was Smith that led the team in receiving yards (1,256) and touchdowns (14) last season. This year, the Heisman Trophy winner really stepped up with the injury to Waddle as he led FBS in receptions (117) and yards (1,856) and is second in touchdowns (23).

41. Detroit Lions - Carlos Basham Jr., EDGE, Wake Forest

72. Detroit Lions - Nico Collins, WR, Michigan

88. Detroit Lions - Baron Browning, LB, Ohio State

Lions Picks in Donahue's 2021 NFL Mock

7. Jaylen Waddle, WR, Alabama

If the draft does play out this way, this pick would be a logical trading spot for teams trying to leapfrog the Panthers at 8 for a QB. However, in my first iteration of mocks I am not going to project any trades even though the Lions would be wise to trade down and garner more picks to address their multiple needs.

That said, given the fact five of the WRs on their roster last year are currently unrestricted free agents including Kenny Golladay, they can not only fill a glaring need at WR with Waddle but also add someone who exemplifies the toughness that head coach Dan Campbell preached about in his introductory press conference. Waddle who rushed back from what many thought was a season-ending injury, was able to be productive in the national championship game while still visibly limping. Now that he has had extra time to heal, he can return to being the fastest WR in the draft and an explosive weapon for the Lions offense.

7. Zach Harrison, EDGE, Ohio State

Teams can never have too many pass-rushers, but only five teams recorded fewer sacks than the Lions (24) in 2020 and the team's leading pass-rusher -- Romeo Okwara (10 sacks) -- will be a free agent next month. If the former five-star recruit is able to take a major step forward in his third season, he has the tools and athleticism to follow in the footsteps of recent Buckeye edge defenders to become a high draft pick.

8. Noah Sewell, LB, Oregon

The younger brother of Penei Sewell, Noah was the Pac-12 Defensive Freshman of the Year in his debut season. A prospect often connected to the Lions in 2021 mock drafts is Penn State's Micah Parsons. Linebacker is currently one of Detroit's biggest team needs and Sewell has the potential to become a difference-making linebacker at the next level.
