Despite a representative (and cousin) of diva wide receiver Michael Crabtree saying that the tenth-overall pick out of Texas Tech
is willing to sit out the entire season, Niners team president Jed York believes that a deal with their top pick is going to happen.
"
We'll get it done at some point," York told John Crumpacker of the
San Francisco Chronicle before Friday's game. "They've had discussions. We'll get it done. We're all in."
Typically, rookies are slotted in based on the contracts of the picks before and after them. The Packers signed B.J. Raji, who was the ninth overall pick, to a five-year contract worth $28 million ($18 million of which is guaranteed).
However, the monkey wrench in the whole process is what Raiders owner Al Davis did. With the seventh overall pick, he selected Maryland's Darrius Heyward-Bey despite Crabtree being the top receiver on nearly every team's board.
Therefore, Crabtree, his agent Eugene Parker, his cousin, his barber's nephew's little league coach, etc. want a deal that exceeds that of Heyward Bey, who received a five-year deal worth $38.25 million ($23.5 million of which is guaranteed).
