2013 NFL Preseason Favorable Team Prop Bets (Trifone)

Earlier this preseason, I have posted my predictions for all of the division winners and each team's regular-season records.

Here are some of the team over-under prop bets that I like for the season (odds from CarbonSports.ag):

Carolina Panthers over 7.5

I picked the Panthers to win the division this year. They lost a ton of close games last year, and finished winning five of their last six games. This is better than a .500 football team.

Cincinnati Bengals over 8.5

Cincy is another one of my picks to win their division, and that should take at least nine wins. I think Cincinnati may be the AFC's best bet, other than Denver, to represent them in the Super Bowl.

Jacksonville Jaguars under 5

I don't think the Jags are going to be much improved this year. They had two wins last year; I'm not sure where they find three more wins. And if somehow they did, you still get a push out of the bet. The Jags would need six wins to lose this one. Anyone think this is a six-win team?

New Orleans Saints under 9.5

In one of the tougher divisions in football, I just don't see the Saints as a 10-win team. The offense gives them the ability to score with the best in the league, but I just don't think they're balanced enough. I have the Saints missing the playoffs again this year.

Here are some more bets that I like with varying degrees of confidence:

Long-shot bet: Bills win the AFC East at 18/1

We need not look beyond last year to see the impact that a rookie quarterback can have. The Bills had real expectations last year and came up way short. With New England possibly due for a more marginal season this year, E.J. Manuel and the Bills may be worth a flyer here.

Safe bet: Texans -200 to win AFC South

Not a lot of people are talking about the Texans because it almost seems like their window to make the Super Bowl has closed. Whether that's true or not, they're still the best team in the AFC South. The Jags have virtually no chance at the division title. The Titans may improve, but I don't think they have much of a chance to go from 6-10 to taking out Houston. The Colts are the real threat, but even if they continue to improve, they had a much softer schedule last year. Houston is the safe bet here.

Decent value bet: Bengals 2/1 to win AFC North

This might seem like a stretch in a division that has historically belonged to the Ravens and Steelers. I like Baltimore to fall off a bit after a very over-achieving season. Pittsburgh has not looked very fluid offensively. They already have running back injuries before the season has even started. And the Bengals have been impressive this preseason on both sides of the ball. I think Cincy is better than 2-1 to win the North, and are worth the investment.
