Week 12 NFL Picks Against the Spread (Trifone)

Here are my Week 12 NFL picks against the spread:

Tampa Bay Buccaneers + 8 (over Detroit Lions)

I think this game has upset potential. The Bucs started off the season 0-8, and very easily could have rolled over on the season. Instead, they have been playing hard for Schiano, and clearly are a much better team than their record indicates.

They lost four of those games by three points or less, including just a three-point overtime loss to the Seahawks at Seattle. Detroit is coming off a tough loss to the Steelers, and prior to that, they are coming off two wins over Dallas and Chicago by a total of three points. The Lions have definitely had their ups and downs this season, and I don't trust them at all to cover eight in this game.

I like the Bucs with an outside chance to win this one, but I definitely like the points.

Miami Dolphins + 5 (over Carolina Panthers)

I love the Panthers, and at this point in the year, I would take them over New Orleans to win the division. I think Carolina probably goes into Miami and wins this game, but that doesn't mean they are going to cover five.

The Dolphins are in the midst of a playoff race of their own, and they know how critical every game is to their chances. This one feels like a back-and-forth game with neither team getting up more than 7-10 points at any time.

I like Miami to be up by three or so in the fourth quarter, and Carolina to finish a drive to win the game by three or four points. Miami looks like a solid bet to me.

New York Jets +3.5 (over Baltimore Ravens)

The Jets are as safe a bet as any this week as they win every odd week. It doesn't really matter who they play, either. Their last two wins are against the Patriots and Saints, clearly two of the better teams in the league.

New York is currently the sixth seed in the AFC and the Ravens are an opportunity for them to finally get a road win (the Jets are currently just 1-4 on the road). I think these two teams are pretty evenly matched. The Ravens probably have the better offense, although they have not been all that impressive this year, but I like the Jets defense of the two units.

Baltimore may win this one, but I'm definitely not willing to give more than a home-field three. I like the Jets to win outright, but even if they don't, that all important half-point gives me the safety net I need to comfortably take them ATS.

Five of our contributors make three weekly picks ATS every week and they will be posted here.
