CJ Carr — 2027 NFL Mock Draft Roundup 1.0

Carr piloted a top-10 Irish team in his first season as a starter, throwing 24 touchdown passes against only six interceptions. With good size and downfield touch, he's got the look of a Day 1 quarterback.

Carr is a Bo Nix-style game manager and I mean that in the most laudatory terms possible. He's a steady-as-she-goes QB, who doesn't make mistakes, shows consistently good touch on deep balls, can throw with anticipation on intermediate throws, has the athleticism to play out of structure and finds ways to make plays -- and that's all just from one year of starting experience.

Every year a QB ascends from the pack and shoots up the draft. Carr could be that guy in 2027 after an encouraging first season as a starter. He finished last season with 2,741 passing yards and 24 touchdowns to six interceptions. He has a snappy release and excellent command at the line. And Carr has polished throwing mechanics, with his eyes, base and throwing motion all tying together.

The sample is small (12 starts), but expanding on his 2025 season would put him in position to be taken by a team such as the Browns, who will likely be willing to take a swing at a QB early despite selecting three in the past two drafts.

The Jets are set to pick three times in next year's first round, and there's an extremely high probability they use one of those picks on a quarterback. Carr produced promising tape as a redshirt freshman. If he takes the next step in 2026, we might be talking about him this early.
