2013 Fantasy Football Mock Draft - Point-Per-Reception (PPR) Scoring
Scoring: This mock draft is based on re-draft leagues (2013 season only). Passing touchdowns are worth
four points while rushing and receiving touchdowns are worth six points. In addition, one point is earned per
25 passing yards, 10 rushing yards and 10 receiving yards plus one point per reception.
For this mock draft, four EDSFootball.com contributors will draft for three teams per round.
We will draft 15 rounds and I will include commentary for each of the 180 picks. This draft will only include QBs, RBs, WRs and TEs — no DEF/K.
This is a slow draft that is conducted offline, but picks/rounds of the draft will be posted as they are completed.
1.03 - Kevin Hanson (Team 1): Arian Foster, RB, Houston Texans
First, let's start with the negatives and there are three things that have fantasy owners worried: (1) his career-low 4.1 yards-per-carry average last year, (2) his cumulative workload over the past three years and (3) the ailments that currently have him on the Active/PUP list.
Over the past three seasons counting the playoffs, Foster had a total of 1,243 touches (1,061 carries and 182 receptions), which averages to nearly 415 touches per season. Should fantasy owners attribute that workload to his 4.1 YPC average last year or to his calf strain and sore back that has kept him out of practice?
Maybe, maybe not. We'll see.
But no player has more yards from scrimmage (5,702) or touchdowns (47) than Foster has over the past three seasons combined. (Those numbers don't include his playoff totals.)
In each of those three seasons, he has 1,200-plus rushing yards and double-digit scores each season and he led the NFL in rushing touchdowns (15) last year.
From a game-to-game standpoint, he's been consistently productive as well.
Based on PPR scoring, Foster has single-digit fantasy points only three times over the past three seasons. In fact, he has three times as many (nine games) with 30-plus fantasy points. He has more games with 20-plus fantasy points (25) than games with less than 20 points (20) during that span.
Sproles missed three games last season, which contributed to lower overall numbers from the previous season. In his two years in The Big Easy, Sproles has a 16-game average of 1,227 YFS, 9.4 TDs and 88.9 receptions.
Although he has only 691 career touches (384 carries and 307 receptions), the 5-foot-6 back turned 30 years in June.
3.03 - Kevin Hanson (Team 1): Andre Johnson, WR, Houston Texans
After playing a combined 20 games in 2010 and 2011, Johnson was able to stay healthy for a full season again. In the past five seasons, Texans receiver Andre Johnson has played 16 games three times.
When healthy, he has shown us last year that he is still one of the league's elite receivers.
Although he scored only four touchdowns, Johnson finished the season with 112 receptions for a career-high and franchise-record 1,598 yards.
It was the third time that he finished with at least 100 receptions and 1,500 yards in the past five years. There are only two other players in NFL history to have multiple seasons with those numbers: Marvin Harrison (three) and Jerry Rice (two).
