2013 Fantasy Football Mock Draft - Point-Per-Reception (PPR) Scoring
Scoring: This mock draft is based on re-draft leagues (2013 season only). Passing touchdowns are worth
four points while rushing and receiving touchdowns are worth six points. In addition, one point is earned per
25 passing yards, 10 rushing yards and 10 receiving yards plus one point per reception.
For this mock draft, four EDSFootball.com contributors will draft for three teams per round.
We will draft 15 rounds and I will include commentary for each of the 180 picks. This draft will only include QBs, RBs, WRs and TEs — no DEF/K.
This is a slow draft that is conducted offline, but picks/rounds of the draft will be posted as they are completed.
10.01 - Dan Yanotchko (Team 3): Eli Manning, QB, New York Giants
Eli ended the season with nine consecutive games with less than 300 passing yards. In fact, he wasn't even close to that amount in most of the games. In four of those nine games, Eli had less than 200 passing yards including in Weeks 15 and 16 when it matters the most in fantasy football. When the season was over, he finished with almost 1,000 less passing yards in 2012 (3,948) than he had in 2011 (4,933).
Fortunately for Eli and his fantasy owners in 2013, he should have a healthier Hakeem Nicks, who missed three games. Although he played in 13 games, Nicks was never 100 percent healthy at any point in the season. When both Nicks and Victor Cruz (although Cruz is in a walking boot) are both healthy, he has one of the league's top-five wide receiving duos as targets.
Brown had what could have been a breakout season wiped out due to a broken ankle in 2012, but things are looking good for Brown heading into 2013.
Recently, here is what Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune wrote about Brown at the conclusion of the team's minicamp: "Vincent Brown is just plain spectacular. Yes, that’s right. Not flashy, just awesome. He’s not quite 6-foot, not quite 200 pounds, not a guy who’d win a foot race against almost any cornerback. But he plays tall, plays big, plays fast. Brown seemingly picking up where he left off last preseason before breaking his ankle is great news. ..."
10.03 - Kevin Hanson (Team 3): Ryan Broyles, WR, Detroit Lions
Recovering from a torn ACL injury, his second in the past two years, Broyles was cleared for the start of training camp, which was obviously great news. In college, Broyles set the NCAA record for most receptions (349) and he's second in receiving yards (4,586).
Especially with Titus Young gone, the second-year receiver will have the opportunity to be the second-most productive receiver on the team behind Calvin Johnson, who will continuously draw double (and triple) teams. Last year, Matthew Stafford set the NFL record for most pass attempts in a season.
Helu had only two carries and played in only three games last season, but he is healthy now and should get an opportunity to be the team's third-down back. In 2011, he had 640 rushing yards and 49 receptions for 379 yards.
In fact, Helu set the franchise's single-game reception record (14) against the 49ers in November of 2011 and had three consecutive 100-yard rushing games in December of 2011.
Olsen set career highs last season with 69 receptions for 843 yards and scored five touchdowns. It was his fifth consecutive season with at least five touchdowns and he is clearly the No. 2 option within the Panthers pass offense.
10.06 - Kevin Hanson (Team 2): Chris Givens, WR, St. Louis Rams
As a deep threat with 4.41 speed, Givens ranked sixth in the NFL last year in yards-per-reception average (16.6). In fact, Givens had a five-game streak from Weeks 4 to 8 of games with a 50-yard reception. Only four receivers had more receptions of at least 40 yards than Givens last year.
With Michael "The Burner" Turner released this offseason, Rodgers will still be a change-of-pace back except to a more talented runner: Steven Jackson. Better in PPR formats, Rodgers had 53 receptions last year for 402 yards. He also had 94 carries for 362 yards.
