Will Riley NBA Mock Drafts
Here are some of the latest mock drafts in which Will Riley has appeared:
Round 1, Pick 25 — Orlando Magic (via DEN)
The Thunder have the luxury of being able to take a player at this range with high upside because of their almost nonexistent team needs. Riley fits that bill. He is a terrific shotmaker who would benefit from adding muscle to his lanky frame.
Round 1, Pick 21 — Utah Jazz (via MIN)
Riley flourished last season at Illinois by providing a scoring punch off the bench, with his array of dribble moves, jab steps and step-backs on the perimeter. He performed well in the shooting drills at the combine on Tuesday, going 26-of-30 off the dribble and 13-of-25 in the 3-point star portions. That effort should help his draft stock after shooting 32.6% from 3-point range on 4.1 attempts per game.

Scouts saw the best and worst of Will Riley in the NCAA tournament, which he opened by scoring 22 points on 12 shots against Xavier. He put on a shotmaking clinic late while also mixing in some strong drives earlier.
However, he was mostly silent in Illinois' following loss to Kentucky, struggling to create separation inside the arc. Weak explosion and a negative wingspan are concerning from a translatability standpoint, and he doesn't offer much versatility for games when his jump shot isn't falling.
But over the last month, Riley has still looked more confident and decisive in terms of shooting and using his dribble to make plays for himself and teammates.
Some teams will see upside in a 6'8" scoring wing. Others may see a lengthy NBA-ready timetable and bust potential.

Round 1, Pick 16 — Orlando Magic
Scouting report: Though far from a finished product, Riley is viewed by NBA teams as a significant long-term talent. He is a versatile scorer with outstanding shotmaking skill from all over the floor who shows impressive flashes of ability to create shots for himself and others. He also has polished creativity as a passer, which is highly intriguing for a 19-year-old.
Adding strength and becoming a more consistent shooter and defender will be the next steps in his development, but he showed encouraging progress for Illinois as the season moved on. -- Givony
NBA intel and fit: After back-to-back playoff appearances, Orlando's front office seems intent on helping the team win its first playoff series since 2010, saying it plans to "look through a more win-now lens."
That might signal a willingness to part with one or both of the team's first-rounders (the Magic also hold the No. 25 pick) if "proven offensive help" becomes available, a search that will likely continue through the offseason. -- Givony

Round 1, Pick 20 — Miami Heat
Riley fits the mold of a microwave scorer, only he's a lot bigger than most players in that archetype at 6'8. He didn't shoot the ball particularly well from deep (32.6 percent) and struggled to score efficiently (53.3 percent true shooting) as a freshman at Illinois, but his talent is easy to see. Riley still needs to add a lot of strength to his frame, which will help him get all the way to basket instead of setting from mid-range. Getting stronger will help his defense, too, which is currently a major question mark. The Heat feel like an ideal landing spot to help him develop physically and let his natural ability flourish.
Round 1, Pick 20 — Miami Heat
Riley, like Flagg, decided to reclassify and enter college a year early, but his timeline for making an impact in the NBA will be quite different. As a perimeter player who plays some streaky offense and a frame that could use some real work, Riley will need some open road to just play and improve his body. But he's tough-minded and seeks challenges, which is a fit for the (much-advertised) personality of the Heat organization. The path for Riley isn't hard to see, and Miami, given its history of development, would be a great place for his game to mature.

Round 1, Pick 21 — Utah Jazz (via MIN)
After taking Knueppel with their lottery pick, the Jazz go with Riley here to add even more versatility to the roster. Riley has dynamic driving ability and playmaking instincts that scream upside as a jumbo-sized, shot-creating wing. But his jumper is streaky, and his defense is unreliable since he's so lean physically and lacks fundamentals. But Utah can afford to be patient.
