Pittsburgh Steelers NFL Mock Draft Roundup 1.0
Throughout the year and leading up to the 2027 NFL Draft, we will update our Pittsburgh Steelers Mock Draft Roundup showing picks for the Pittsburgh Steelers from several prominent sites and draft analysts.
The following are picks from recent NFL mock drafts for the Pittsburgh Steelers:
14. LaNorris Sellers, QB, South Carolina
Sellers could have entered the 2026 draft and likely earned a Day 2 selection based on his upside, but he wisely returned to iron out his game. His 33:15 TD-INT ratio over his career illustrates his current inconsistency, but he's a dynamic athlete with excellent size and a cannon for an arm, and he has the intangibles teams want at quarterback.
For the Win — Christian D'Andrea
8. LaNorris Sellers, QB, South Carolina
Will the breakthrough the Gamecocks hoped Sellers would have in 2025 instead manifest in 2026? That's the bet here, as the South Carolina quarterback with Josh Allen traits is one massive season from planting his NFL flag but could be a top 10 selection even with a modest season thanks to his tools.
8. Darian Mensah, QB, Miami (FL)
Mensah is a sturdy, big-armed passer who has both touch and accuracy on deep throws, consistently layers the ball on second-level throws, can rip intermediate and deep throws out of structure and with accuracy, but he can also get himself into trouble when he tries to extend plays instead of taking what the defense gives him. He has a chance to be the latest Miami QB transfer to be in the Round 1 conversation, following Cam Ward and Carson Beck.
14. Drew Mestemaker, QB, Oklahoma State
The Steelers have been in the QB wilderness since Ben Roethlisberger retired after the 2021 season. With Aaron Rodgers expected to do the same shortly, is this Pittsburgh's best opportunity to swing for a franchise QB?
Mestemaker is an incredible story, going from a zero-star walk-on at North Texas to throwing for 4,379 passing yards and 34 touchdowns with nine interceptions last season. He uses a fiery, three-quarters release, and his passes rarely lack velocity. He excelled in a spread-and-shred scheme and followed coach Eric Morris to Oklahoma State. His overconfidence is a gift and a curse, as he can get fixated on first reads and make head-scratching decisions. Cleaning that up on the Big 12 stage could make him a first-rounder next spring.

8. Drew Mestemaker, QB, Oklahoma State
A former walk-on, Mestemaker put himself on the NFL radar with his performance at North Texas last season. Now at Oklahoma State (with the same coaching staff), he has an ascending skill set that has scouts highly intrigued.
8. Brendan Sorsby, QB, Texas Tech
One of the most sought-after transfers in the portal, Sorsby will look to elevate Texas Tech's national title aspirations after arriving from Cincinnati. An athletic passer with a prototypical NFL frame at 6-foot-3 and 235 pounds, he can win both in and out of the pocket while flashing the arm talent and playmaking instincts coveted on Sundays.
8. Brendan Sorsby, QB, Texas Tech
There is a strong possibility that four quarterbacks go in the top 10 next season, heightened by the fact that none of the obvious quarterback-needy teams selected Ty Simpson this year. Sorsby could be one of several quarterbacks to emerge in 2026, and the Steelers are among the teams in search of a franchise option. Teams will value his decision-making and composure under pressure — he took just seven sacks on 114 pressures last season at Cincinnati.
14. Drew Mestemaker, QB, Oklahoma State
It's easy to forget that last spring North Texas beat writers had Miami transfer QB Reese Poffenbarger ahead of Mestemaker on the Mean Green depth chart, though HC Eric Morris refrained from naming an outright starter until fall camp. Throughout the process I was an outspoken advocate for Mestemaker, who has a more air raid-compatible profile than Poffenbarger. The QB-battle allowed him to fly under the radar in Campus 2 Canton entry drafts, as I selected him in the final round in two of my C2C leagues. Whereas the other QBs ahead of him are all former five-star mega-prospects, Mestemaker is a self-made former walk-on in the mold of former Texas Tech/Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield.
