2013 Fantasy Football Mock Draft - Standard Scoring
|
| |
Scoring: This mock draft is based on re-draft leagues (2013 season only). Passing touchdowns are worth
four points while rushing and receiving touchdowns are worth six points. In addition, one point is earned per
25 passing yards, 10 rushing yards and 10 receiving yards.
For this mock draft, four EDSFootball.com contributors will draft for three teams per round.
We will draft 16 rounds and I will include commentary for each of the 192 picks.
This is a slow draft that is conducted offline, but picks/rounds of the draft will be posted as they are completed.
We have recently completed a Dynasty Mock Draft and will complete more mocks as the 2013 season approaches.

Here are results for Kevin Hanson's "Team 1":
1.01 - Kevin Hanson (Team 1): Adrian Peterson, RB, Minnesota Vikings
In re-draft leagues, Peterson is a no-brainer choice as the top running back (and top overall pick).
Less than one year removed from a torn ACL, Peterson, the league's Most Valuable Player, nearly set the NFL single-season rushing record with the second-highest output of all-time (2,097 yards). In fact, almost 1,600 of those yards and 10 touchdowns came in the final 10 games of the season. In addition to recovering from the knee injury, Peterson played with a sports hernia down the stretch as well.
Shooting for 2,500 rushing yards this season, that goal seems somewhat less absurd after what he accomplished last year at less than 100 percent.
- Poll: Will there be a 2,000-yard rusher in 2013?
2.12 - Kevin Hanson (Team 1): Steven Jackson, RB, Atlanta Falcons
After being the primary offensive option with little help from his teammates, Steven Jackson moves to a team overflowing will talented skill players (Roddy White, Julio Jones, Tony Gonzalez, etc.).
The active leader in carries (2,395), by far, Jackson has a lot of tread on his soon-to-be 30-year-old legs. With eight consecutive 1,000-yard seasons, SJax should get an opportunity to finally cash in at the goal line as well.
Before being released, Michael Turner had double-digit rushing touchdowns in each of the past five seasons for the Falcons.

3.01 - Kevin Hanson (Team 1): Demaryius Thomas, WR, Denver Broncos
Thomas had a breakout season last year in his first with Peyton Manning. Even with the offseason addition of slot receiver Wes Welker, I don't expect a huge drop in targets for Thomas, who finished the year with 94 receptions for 1,434 yards and 10 touchdowns.
4.12 - Kevin Hanson (Team 1): Marques Colston, WR, New Orleans Saints
With Colston, fantasy owners get a highly productive and consistent receiver. He finished with 83 receptions for 1,154 yards, which ranked 13th in the league, and eight touchdowns and only 10 receivers scored more fantasy points than Colston in 2012.
Since entering the league as a seventh-round rookie in 2006, Colston has 1,000-plus receiving yards in six of seven seasons. The only exception was his injury-shortened 2008 campaign, but he was on pace for another 1,000-yard season that year.
Colston has caught 58 touchdowns in 102 career games, which is an average of 9.1 per 16 games. Only Arizona's Larry Fitzgerald (59) has more touchdowns than Colston during that span.
5.01 - Kevin Hanson (Team 1): Montee Ball, RB, Denver Broncos
The Broncos have parted ways with Willis McGahee, Knowshon Moreno has struggled to stay healthy and Ronnie Hillman appears to be primarily a change-of-pace back. Therefore, Montee Ball, the team's second-round pick, appears to be the most likely choice to be the team's featured back.
Ball was a workhorse in college as he rushed for 5,140 yards, caught 59 passes for 598 yards and scored a total of 83 touchdowns.
6.12 - Kevin Hanson (Team 1): Cecil Shorts, WR, Jacksonville Jaguars
After catching only two passes for 30 yards in 2011, Shorts broke out in a big way in 2012. He finished the season with 55 receptions, 979 yards and seven touchdowns in 14 games.
Excluding the two games he missed after the bye, Shorts had at least 54 yards in all nine games he played during that stretch. From Week 7 until the end of the season, Shorts had 774 receiving yards, which ranked him 10th in the NFL, despite missing two games during that span.
With the four-game suspension of Blackmon to start the season, Shorts has a huge opportunity to build upon last year's success.
7.01 - Kevin Hanson (Team 1): Russell Wilson, QB, Seattle Seahawks
Seattle's Russell Wilson was good for a rookie in the first half of the season, but he was great (for any quarterback) in the second half.
In his first eight games, Wilson threw 10 touchdowns and eight interceptions and he averaged 6.98 yards per pass attempt and 3.6 yards per rush attempt. In his final eight regular-season games, however, Wilson had a 16-to-2 touchdown-to-interception ratio, averaged 9.03 yards per pass attempt and 6.2 yards per rush attempt. In fact, all four of his rushing touchdowns last season came in the second half of the year.
Wilson finished the year with a rookie-record 26 passing touchdowns and 10 interceptions and was one of four quarterbacks (veteran or rookie) to finish with a passer rating of at least 100.0 in 2012.
Helping Wilson's cause in 2013, the Seahawks have acquired Percy Harvin in a trade with the Vikings. As one of the league's most dynamic players, Harvin averaged 8.9 yards after catch.

8.12 - Kevin Hanson (Team 1): Andre Brown, RB, New York Giants
With Ahmad Bradshaw being released early in the offseason, David Wilson is expected to be the team's featured back going forward. Even with less talent than and a secondary role to Wilson, Brown should still be a productive back for the Giants (and fantasy owners).
If Wilson has any issues with ball security or pass protection, which is certainly a possibility, Brown could really turn out to be a great value at least for the 2013 season. Brown, who rushed for eight touchdowns last year, is due to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2013 season.
9.01 - Kevin Hanson (Team 1): Mike Williams, WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
When it comes to receptions, Williams has been remarkably consistent over his three seasons with 65, 65 and 63, respectively. His targets have been (nearly) as consistent as well: 129, 124 and 126, respectively. His production in yardage and touchdowns has varied considerably, however.
Last season, he had a bounce-back year in both categories as he finished with a career-high 996 yards and scored nine touchdowns. As a rookie, Williams scored 11 touchdowns in 2010. Since entering the league in 2010, Williams is tied for 12th in the NFL in receiving touchdowns (23).
In the final five games of the season, Williams had three of his four games with double-digit targets. During that span, he finished with 26 receptions (on 53 targets) for 371 yards and four touchdowns.
10.12 - Kevin Hanson (Team 1): DeAngelo Williams, RB, Carolina Panthers
Williams led the Panthers in carries per game (10.81), but he finished second on the team in rushing yards (737) behind quarterback Cam Newton (741), who also led the team in rushing touchdowns (eight).
Barring an injury to Stewart, who actually is recovering from offseason surgeries on both ankles, the 30-year-old Williams is unlikely to get more than the 10 carries per game he had last year. Then again, there is reason to be concerned about Stewart's ankles as he even had to withdraw from a golf tournament earlier this month due to his ankles.
11.01 - Kevin Hanson (Team 1): Emmanuel Sanders, WR, Pittsburgh Steelers
This could be Sanders final year with the Steelers. There was some speculation this offseason that the Steelers might not match the offer sheet made to him by the Patriots, but ultimately they matched it.
After posting career highs last year with 44 receptions and 626 yards, Sanders should have an opportunity to set new career highs in 2013. With Mike Wallace now in Miami, Sanders will get many more than the 74 targets he had in 2012.
12.12 - Kevin Hanson (Team 1): Malcom Floyd, WR, San Diego Chargers
Floyd led the Chargers in receiving last year with 56 receptions and 84 yards, but he once again failed to play in a full 16-game season. Floyd has played 16 games only once (2009) and it was Danario Alexander that was the team's leading receiver down the stretch.
In 2013, Floyd will be fighting for targets with Alexander, Vincent Brown and Keenan Allen and that will cap Floyd's upside even if he does stay healthy.
13.01 - Kevin Hanson (Team 1): Martellus Bennett, TE, Chicago Bears
Considering the lack of strength at the top of the position, I am very comfortable waiting to draft my fantasy tight end and taking someone like Bennett late. In his one-year deal with the Giants last season, he finished with career highs of 55 receptions, 626 yards and five touchdowns. He should have an opportunity to set new career highs with the Bears.
14.12 - Kevin Hanson (Team 1): Jordan Cameron, TE, Cleveland Browns
Cameron isn't without his flaws as he has dealt with some drops, but he has elite athleticism for the position to become a mismatch nightmare for linebackers and safeties. In addition, the Browns offense will be very friendly to tight ends, which could lead to a breakout campaign.
15.01 - Kevin Hanson (Team 1): Chicago Bears Defense
16.12 - Kevin Hanson (Team 1): Dan Bailey, K, Dallas Cowboys
