2013 Fantasy Football Mock Draft - Standard Scoring
Scoring: This mock draft is based on re-draft leagues (2013 season only). Passing touchdowns are worth
four points while rushing and receiving touchdowns are worth six points. In addition, one point is earned per
25 passing yards, 10 rushing yards and 10 receiving yards.
For this mock draft, four EDSFootball.com contributors will draft for three teams per round.
We will draft 16 rounds and I will include commentary for each of the 192 picks.
This is a slow draft that is conducted offline, but picks/rounds of the draft will be posted as they are completed.
We have recently completed a Dynasty Mock Draft and will complete more mocks as the 2013 season approaches.
13.01 - Kevin Hanson (Team 1): Martellus Bennett, TE, Chicago Bears
Considering the lack of strength at the top of the position, I am very comfortable waiting to draft my fantasy tight end and taking someone like Bennett late. In his one-year deal with the Giants last season, he finished with career highs of 55 receptions, 626 yards and five touchdowns. He should have an opportunity to set new career highs with the Bears.
13.02 - Dan Yanotchko (Team 1): Joe Flacco, QB, Baltimore Ravens
Over the past three seasons, Flacco has a combined 18-to-2 touchdown-to-interception ratio in the postseason. Earning Super Bowl MVP honors in his last game played allowed Flacco to parlay his postseason success into a monster nine-figure contract. That said, Flacco is a much better quarterback in real life than he is in fantasy.
In the regular season, Flacco has yet to reach 4,000 passing yards or throw for more than 25 touchdowns in any of his five seasons as a pro. With Flacco losing Anquan Boldin (trade) and Dennis Pitta (injury) and getting veterans Brandon Stokley and Dallas Clark in return, gaudy passing statistics don't appear to be in Flacco's immediate future.
13.03 - Brendan Donahue (Team 1): Michael Bush, RB, Chicago Bears
Perhaps most valuable to the owner that drafts Forte earlier, which is not Brendan, Bush averaged only 3.6 yards per carry last season. Barring an injury to Forte, his primary fantasy value will be derived from goal-line touches.
13.04 - Sean Beazley (Team 1): Daniel Thomas, RB, Miami Dolphins
There has been some reports out of Miami that there is still a competition for the starting running back position between Lamar Miller and Daniel Thomas. I find that hard to believe, but Thomas should be the guy, when the opportunity presents itself, to punch it in at the goal line.
13.05 - Sean Beazley (Team 2): Darrius Heyward-Bey, WR, Indianapolis Colts
Two seasons ago, DHB nearly had a 1,000-yard season as he finished with 975 yards on 64 receptions. He is one of the league's fastest wide receivers and gets a quarterback upgrade although he is likely to be third in the pecking order for targets behind Reggie Wayne and T.Y. Hilton.
LaFell set career highs last season with 44 receptions for 677 yards and four touchdowns, but it was less of a jump from his 2011 stat line of 36/613/3 than most had expected for the third-year receiver.
This is a contract year for LaFell and he'll have an opportunity to step up his production as the starter opposite Steve Smith once again.
After leading the team in both receptions (61) and receiving yards (709) as a rookie in 2011, Little saw his production drop in both of those categories in his second season. He finished the year with a team-high 53 receptions and 647 yards, which was second behind rookie Josh Gordon.
As Terry Pluto of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer writes, "Reviewing the tapes from last season, the coaches were very impressed with the improvement of Greg Little. In the first five games, he had 11 catches and six drops. In the last 11 games, it was 42 catches and three drops. Little receives high grades for blocking and toughness. He seems to be a significant part of the plan for 2013."
While there are several RBs I'd prefer over James, I'd also prefer teammate Kendall Hunter over him as well. James figures to be third in line among the team's running backs for touches.
The Seahawks have either the best or one of the best defenses in the league. As we've seen with Dan's teams, he has been much more willing to take a defense relatively early whereas I'd prefer to wait until the second-to-last round for my defense(s).
Compared to other tight ends, Daniels has a fairly high floor but he lacks a high ceiling in the team's run-first offense. He's a solid option for those that wait until late for their tight end(s).
13.11 - Kevin Hanson (Team 3): Mike Goodson, RB, New York Jets
The fact that Goodson has yet to report to camp is worrisome, but he has upside when (or should I say if?!) he reports if Chris Ivory is unable to stay healthy.
13.12 - Sean Beazley (Team 3): Golden Tate, WR, Seattle Seahawks
Tate had 45 receptions for 688 yards and seven touchdowns, at least one of those that the Packers would vehemently claim was not a touchdown. Going into the 2013 season, the hip injury to teammate Percy Harvin has made Tate the fastest riser over the past three weeks in terms of average draft position (ADP). Since this is a "slow" draft, Sean reaps the reward.
