2020 NFL Power Rankings: Washington Football Team

Throughout the 2020 NFL season, we will compile a consensus NFL Power Rankings that averages the rankings of all 32 NFL teams.

Here is where the Washington Football Team rank in terms of average, best and worst:

Below you will find a Week 6 roundup for Washington in our consensus 2020 NFL Power Rankings.

The Athletic -- Rank: 31

Congrats to Alex Smith for getting back on a football field after all the hard work he'd put in over the past two years. From a viewer's perspective, it was an uneasy -- and frankly, terrifying -- feeling to see Smith in harm's way, getting hit time and again. But he kept getting back up and made it through the game. I don't know what Washington plans to do at quarterback going forward, but count me among those who think Smith should have Comeback Player of the Year locked up, regardless of what happens next.

CBS Sports -- Rank: 30

No matter who plays quarterback, they are a bad team. Dwayne Haskins, Kyle Allen or Alex Smith aren't saving this team.

USA Today -- Rank: 30

Most impressive 37-yard passing day in NFL history ... and perhaps the clincher for best NFL story of 2020. Welcome back, Alex Smith.

ESPN -- Rank: 27

Biggest weakness: Offense

Washington ranks 30th or worse in a number of key offensive categories: points per game, yards per game, third down, rushing yards per game, passing yards per game, total QBR and sacks per pass attempt. The team benched quarterback Dwayne Haskins Jr. after four starts, but there's a lot more that needed to be done around him. The defense isn't playing well or consistently, but it's the offense that has been bad across the board. The hope for Washington is that in the next five weeks it plays three defenses ranked 23rd or worse in yards allowed per game: Dallas, Cincinnati and Detroit. Now is the time when they need to show growth. -- John Keim

NFL.com -- Rank: 30

Week 1 seems so long ago. Back on Sept. 13, Washington sacked Carson Wentz eight times in an upset win over the Eagles. The Football Team has managed just seven sacks total in the four games since, all losses by at least two touchdowns. The defense hasn't lived up to lofty early expectations, while the offense has cratered. Dwayne Haskins watched from home as Washington managed 108 total yards in a 30-10 loss to the Rams. Kyle Allen provided little spark before exiting with a shoulder injury, and Alex Smith got hit way too often in his first game action since his harrowing leg injury in 2018. Ron Rivera said after the loss that Allen will remain the starter if he's cleared to play ahead of this week's matchup against the winless Giants.
