Below you will find a post-NFL Draft roundup for the Colts in our consensus 2020 NFL Power Rankings.
The Athletic -- Rank: 9
The Colts continue to be one of our darlings of the offseason after a free agency haul that netted Buckner and Philip Rivers. Similar to our thoughts about the Chiefs, we usually don't get too excited about running back draft picks, but Jonathan Taylor to Indianapolis in the second round makes so much sense and he should be an immediate asset.
CBS Sports -- Rank: 11
I didn't love their draft, but landing DeForest Buckner for their first-round pick will help the defense. They will win the AFC South.
USA Today -- Rank: 6
QB Philip Rivers must be thrilled to get Round 1 talents in WR Michael Pittman and RB Jonathan Taylor in Round 2. However Buckner was their best "pick"(up).
ESPN -- Rank: 13
Player who benefited: QB Philip Rivers. The Colts added to their skill positions to help Rivers out, using their first two draft picks on receiver Michael Pittman Jr. and running back Jonathan Taylor, whom they traded up to get. They also selected receiver Dezmon Patmon later in the draft. Pittman and Taylor should make an immediate impact. Pittman has the size to go with the speed of T.Y. Hilton and Parris Campbell at receiver. Taylor will share the workload in the backfield with Marlon Mack, who rushed for more than 1,000 yards last season. -- Mike Wells
NFL.com -- Rank: 9
Indianapolis' first-round pick was used to acquire DeForest Buckner, a move that could have a huge impact on the Colts' interior defense. With Indy's first pick in the draft (34th overall), Chris Ballard landed another difference-maker in USC wideout Michael Pittman Jr., who has all the tools to become an immediate star playing with Philip Rivers and T.Y. Hilton. Pittman immediately upgrades a wide receiver group that lacked depth and playmaking talent. The Colts had a similar situation at running back before trading up to land Wisconsin star Jonathan Taylor. A 2,000-yard rusher in each of his final two collegiate seasons (and nearly all three), Taylor could threaten Marlon Mack for The Man status in the Colts' backfield. Big-armed Washington QB Jacob Eason (taken in the fourth round) will learn behind Rivers and could be the first man up when the veteran decides to hang up his bolo tie.
