Bryce Young - NFL Mock Draft Roundup
Leading up to the 2023 NFL Draft, we will track where Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Bryce Young appears in the latest NFL mock drafts.
Bryce Young NFL Mock Drafts
Here are some of the latest mock drafts in which Bryce Young has appeared:
The Draft Network - Marino
2nd overall, Houston Texans
After two seasons of Davis Mills doing his best to keep the Houston Texans offense on schedule, it's clear the team needs a new direction at the most important position. Bryce Young features the intangibles and playmaking instincts necessary to be a dynamic quarterback in the NFL.
CBS Sports - Edwards
TRADE - 1st overall, Carolina Panthers
Carolina traded up to No. 3 overall and then to No. 1 overall. It is a similar model that Philadelphia used to select Carson Wentz in 2016. Philadelphia sent players, including Kiko Alonso and the No. 13 overall selection to Miami in exchange for the No. 8 overall selection. Then, it flipped that to Cleveland for the No. 2 overall selection. With the No. 1 overall selection, the Panthers select Bryce Young.
Walter Football
4th overall, Indianapolis Colts
The Colts need to find a permanent solution at quarterback, rather than play musical chairs at the position. In this scenario, the Colts can trade up with the Bears to leapfrog the divisional rival Texans to obtain the quarterback they want in this class.
Bryce Young has size issues - he's 5-11 - but he has drawn comparisons to Kyler Murray.
College Football News
4th overall, Indianapolis Colts
Like Will Levis at the 2, take your guess on the quarterback of choice here. Young's lack of size is going to matter in the offseason process, but he's the most talented NFL-caliber quarterback in the draft.
CBS Sports - Trapasso
2nd overall, Houston Texans
The Texans upgrade the quarterback position in a big way with Young, who has all the improvisational brilliance to succeed in today's NFL.
Athlon Sports - Fischer
2nd overall, Houston Texans
The debate as to who QB1 will be might end up being something that gets decided just minutes before Commissioner Roger Goodell takes the stage. Stroud might be a slightly safer pick after a masterful performance in his final game and with better measurables than Young.
Pro Football Network - Fragoza
7th overall, Las Vegas Raiders
It's been pretty clear that the Raiders have moved on from Derek Carr, which opens the door for them to spend the draft capital on Young and begin a new era in the desert with the playmaking QB who should team up well with Davante Adams.
The Athletic - Baumgardner
2nd overall, Houston Texans
By the same logic as Chicago above, Houston has options. There's no guarantee the Texans take a quarterback at No. 2 (even if they absolutely still need a franchise QB). The Texans have the best haul of draft capital available and they're incredibly young as a team, so they could wait until next year if they want. Young, however, is a mature leader with a strong football IQ. He'd be tough to pass up if he slips past the top spot.
SB Nation - Schofield
2nd overall, Houston Texans
The big question Young faces his draft season is his size. There are already reports that he is looking to weigh around 210 pounds at the Scouting Combine, and his height will be highly scrutinized as well. On the field, Young is accurate, athletic, and has the ability to quickly work through reads and break a defense down with his mind.
CBS Sports - Wilson
2nd overall, Houston Texans
Bryce Young might be historically undersized by successful NFL QB standards, but we don't care. He's been that good for Alabama, dragging that team to victory just about every week. And he did it with none of the playmakers who made life so much easier for Tua Tagovailoa and Mac Jones in previous years.
PFF - Sikkema
TRADE - 1st overall, Houston Texans
In my first 2023 mock draft, I had the Texans selecting Young at the top. I have the same here a month later, but it will cost Houston a bit more this time. ESPN's Todd McShay recently said he believes the Texans will do "everything they can" to get up to No. 1, a spot they held until the final week of the season. It'll cost them more than one might expect due to a potential bidding war with the likes of the Colts, Raiders, Panthers and others looking to move up for a quarterback. But the Texans can boast that their offer allows the Bears to still get any defensive player they want. Plus, they have two first-round picks in each of the next two drafts.
Of course, such a move would be for a quarterback, and there is no better quarterback in this class than Bryce Young, who earned elite PFF grades of 92.2 and 91.0 in back-to-back seasons.
DetroitLions.com - O'Hara
TRADE - 1st overall, Indianapolis Colts
A three-year skid from 11-5 to 9-8 to 4-12-1 has made Indy desperate for changes. The Colts start over at quarterback.
The 33rd Team
5th overall, Seattle Seahawks
Seattle had every intention of going with Geno Smith and taking the best available defensive player at this slot or getting a bounty from a quarterback-needy team, but that was before Bryce Young slid here. He is too good for them to pass up here.
DraftTek
2nd overall, Houston Texans
The search for the next Houston Texans' HC is heating up!
Though it has now been confirmed that both Mike Kafka and Ejiro Evero have both secured 2nd interviews with the Texans, former Texans LB DeMeco Ryans, still seems to be the clear leader in the clubhouse to land the position. At least, it's certainly that way in the heart of Texan fans. It also helps when recently retired Texan legend JJ Watt, gives his seal of approval to Ryans as well! Who could blame him for feeling that way? Ryans has not only coached the 49er defense into being the best in the NFL this year, but he is also getting ready to coach in the NFC Championship game against the Eagles. Whoever the next HC for the Houston Texans ends up being, it will be best to help him hit the ground running by drafting the best QB college has to offer in the form of Alabama QB, Bryce Young!
Bryce Young is being talked about as the ultimate NFL point guard! Young's laser like precision and big playability in clutch moments Easily makes him the most sought after QB prospect in this year's draft! Bryce is the only Alabama QB to throw for over 3000 yards in two separate seasons and set the single season passing yards record for Alabama at 4872! Many have knocked Bryce for being not only undersized but underweight to play NFL QB. However, Bryce is reportedly attempting to remedy this by working with a nutritionist to try to get up to 210 pounds. While his height and weight might be concerning to some, it's best not to overthink it. Young is clearly the guy to turn around this bewildered Houston Texans organization!
ESPN - Kiper
4th overall, Indianapolis Colts
The trades for Carson Wentz and Matt Ryan in back-to-back offseasons didn't work out for general manager Chris Ballard, and now the Colts are starting over -- again -- at quarterback. Don't they have to draft a signal-caller here (if they don't trade up to get their preferred guy)? They have some intriguing talent on their roster, but as we've seen time and time again in the NFL, nothing else matters if they don't have their quarterback.
There's a clear gap after the top three passers in this class, and the Colts don't necessarily have to trade up to get one of them. In this scenario, they could take Young, a quick processor with an elite feel for the pocket and how to move around and locate his target. The 2021 Heisman Trophy winner doesn't have a big frame, which some NFL scouts will downgrade him for because there aren't many starting quarterbacks under 200 pounds. I love his tape, though, and I'd be willing to bet on his talent. Spread out the offense and watch him throw darts to Michael Pittman Jr. and Alec Pierce.
