2020 NFL Power Rankings: Detroit Lions

Throughout the 2020 NFL season, we will compile a consensus NFL Power Rankings that averages the rankings of all 32 NFL teams.

Here is where the Detroit Lions rank in terms of average, best and worst:

Below you will find a post-NFL Draft roundup for the Lions in our consensus 2020 NFL Power Rankings.

The Athletic -- Rank: 28

Dare we say we liked this Lions draft? Short of moving back in the first round, it all seems to have played out as good as could be expected for the Lions. Don't tell anyone else in my fantasy league but I'm almost certainly going to draft DeAndre Swift, who should be just the latest in the line of Georgia tailbacks to arrive ready to play.

CBS Sports -- Rank: 27

Their draft didn't do a lot to make me think they can push for anything more than fourth in the division. Is this the end for Matt Patricia?

USA Today -- Rank: 22

Perhaps quietly on cusp of significant jump given resources devoted to reducing load on QB Matthew Stafford while keeping him upright.

ESPN -- Rank: 28

Player who benefited: OT Taylor Decker. The Lions didn't draft an offensive tackle; that could signal the team's future plans for Decker, who is entering a contract year. Depending how things play out, it could mean a long-term extension for the former first-round pick. Detroit focused more on the interior of the offensive line by drafting guards Jonah Jackson and Logan Stenberg, giving Decker some potential long-term help. Add in speedy running backs D'Andre Swift and Jason Huntley, and it ended up being a good draft for Decker. -- Michael Rothstein

NFL.com -- Rank: 30

The Lions had the worst pass defense in the league last season, so it's hard to argue with their decision to stay at No. 3 overall and take Ohio State standout Jeff Okudah. Okudah and Darius Slay would have made for a killer pairing in the secondary, but Desmond Trufant is a solid second banana if Okudah becomes a star, as many predict. Second-round pick D'Andre Swift is Detroit's latest swing for a legit answer at running back. (Are we inching into Curse Of Barry Sanders territory here?) Swift should add another dimension to the Lions' passing game, as well, and Matthew Stafford is no doubt pleased with back-to-back guard picks in Rounds 3 and 4. Is there enough here to compete for a playoff spot? The jobs of GM Bob Quinn and coach Matt Patricia may depend on it.
