Below you will find a post-NFL Draft roundup for the Saints in our consensus 2020 NFL Power Rankings.
The Athletic -- Rank: 3
Since we last checked in on the Saints, New Orleans added two quarterbacks: the No. 1 pick in 2015 and five-year Tampa Bay starter Jameis Winston and rookie Tommy Stevens, a seventh-round pick out of Mississippi State. Neither should have too much of a bearing on the Saints' immediate status (or ranking) beyond an added layer to the Week 1 game between the Saints and Buccaneers. But the reconstituted group, with the new guys joining Taysom Hill, leads to interesting questions about who will replace Drew Brees.
CBS Sports -- Rank: 3
Adding Emmanuel Sanders will help the offense and they have much of their team back from a year ago. That's enough to make them a true contender.
USA Today -- Rank: 3
Given roster didn't need much, front office focused on quality over quantity in draft – including pair of nice third-rounders (LB Zack Baun, TE Adam Trautman). To then get 5,000-yard passer Jameis Winston for nickels on the dollar? They're primed to send Drew Brees into the sunset in style.
ESPN -- Rank: 4
Player who benefited: RB Alvin Kamara. We already knew how important Kamara is to the Saints as he heads into the final year of his contract. But he is even more vital now as both a runner and receiver after the Saints didn't address either position in the draft. (ESPN's Dianna Russini reported that they were considering RB Jonathan Taylor in Round 1, among other possibilities.) As a bonus for Kamara, the Saints used their first-round pick on center Cesar Ruiz, whose highlight package is filled with him blowing up huge running lanes. -- Mike Triplett
NFL.com -- Rank: 4
The Saints entered the draft boasting one of the most complete rosters in the NFL. With no glaring holes, coach Sean Payton and GM Mickey Loomis did some tinkering. Enter first-round pick Cesar Ruiz, who appears poised to replace veteran incumbent Larry Warford at right guard. Come Sunday morning, the Saints' quarterback room became the source of the team's highest level of intrigue. We learned that New Orleans is reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Jameis Winston(!) on the same day Taysom Hill inked a two-year, $21 million extension. That's substantial money for a gadget player poised to be a third-string QB if Winston signs to be Drew Brees' backup. Hey, rich-people problems, right?
