Carolina Panthers Mock Draft Roundup 7.0

Throughout the year and leading up to the 2021 NFL draft, we will update our Carolina Panthers Mock Draft Roundup showing picks for the Carolina Panthers from several prominent sites and draft analysts.

The following are picks in recent mock drafts for the Panthers:

EDSFootball - Donahue (3/23)

8. Trey Lance, QB, North Dakota State

At his pro day, Lance reminded scouts that he is a unique talent and got them buzzing about him again. Turn on NFL Network or ESPN and you hear comps to Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson. While there are questions about his competition and the total number of games started, there is no questioning his physical tools and athleticism. To quote Daniel Jeremiah "it's a limited body of work, but the foundation is outstanding." As the draft draws closer, I expect Lance to continue to move up draft boards and won't be surprised to see him be a top-five pick on draft day.

NFL.com - Brooks (3/23)

8. Trey Lance, QB, North Dakota State

The FCS star could take over in 2022, after serving an apprenticeship under Teddy Bridgewater.

The Athletic - Beat Writers (3/23)

8. Kyle Pitts, TE, Florida

Had this mock draft happened 10 days ago, I would have been on the phone with the Texans trying to trade the eighth pick -- and a lot more -- for Deshaun Watson. The Panthers have more than a month to monitor the sexual assault allegations against Watson and decide whether they're still interested. But in this mock, with the top four quarterbacks and Sewell off the board, expect Panthers GM Scott Fitterer to take the best player available with Pitts. The tight end can be the missing piece in coordinator Joe Brady's offense. Pitts is big, fast and a matchup nightmare for linebackers and safeties. -- Joseph Person

ESPN - Kiper (3/22)

3. Justin Fields, QB, Ohio State

We've seen the Panthers be aggressive to try to add a quarterback this offseason -- in the Matthew Stafford sweepstakes -- and it's clear that Teddy Bridgewater isn't their long-term answer at the position. I think the top four quarterbacks will be off the board by the time Carolina picks at No. 8, which means it is going to have to keep up that aggressiveness if Matt Rhule & Co. like Fields or North Dakota State's Trey Lance. Fields could be eased in as the starter, and he'll have a legitimate No. 1 wide receiver with DJ Moore. The Panthers would instantly become a must-watch offense every Sunday.

CBS Sports - Wilson (3/22)

2. Justin Fields, QB, Ohio State

We're not convinced the Jets are going to stay put at No. 2 and if they don't, several teams could be interested in moving up for a QB. Zach Wilson is our QB2 but that doesn't mean he's QB2 for the 32 NFL teams. And for the Panthers, we feel like Justin Fields would be a perfect fit, especially if the team was willing to let him sit on the bench for the first month or two of the 2022 season instead of throwing him out there.

PFF - Renner (3/22)

5. Trey Lance, QB, North Dakota State

The Panthers were unable to get a deal done with their division-rival Falcons, but the Bengals were more than willing to slide a few spots down with Penei Sewell off the board. Lance goes to a perfect situation where he can sit behind Teddy Bridgewater as long as possible, and he will have legit weapons whenever he's called upon.
