The following are picks in recent mock drafts for the Cowboys:
EDSFootball - Donahue (3/23)
10. Patrick Surtain II, CB, Alabama
There is a clear distinction in who the top three cornerbacks are this year but it is not as clear which one will go off the board first between Patrick Surtain II, Caleb Farley and Jaycee Horn. Dallas goes with the
2020 SEC Defensive Player of the Year even while opposing offenses typically avoided throwing at him. At 6-foot-2 and 202 pounds, he has the prototypical size and speed combination NFL scouts covet at the position.
NFL.com - Brooks (3/23)
10. Alijah Vera-Tucker, IOL, USC
It might be wise for the Cowboys to find an insurance policy for the oft-injured Tyron Smith.
The Athletic - Beat Writers (3/23)
10. Caleb Farley, CB, Virginia Tech
The Cowboys could consider trading back in this scenario. All of the top defenders are still on the board, meaning Dallas would have its choice of cornerback. That could be Farley, Alabama's Patrick Surtain II or South Carolina's Jaycee Horn. Cornerback, safety and defensive tackle are the Cowboys' biggest needs. Farley would immediately step into the starting lineup opposite Trevon Diggs and instantly improve a secondary that has been an issue for a while. In most years, there would be an intriguing edge rusher or defensive tackle at No. 10, but that doesn't appear to be the case in this year's class. Note: This pick was made before it was revealed that Farley will have a microdisectomy on Tuesday. Had this information been available before the draft, Surtain would have been Dallas' pick. -- Jon Machota
ESPN - Kiper (3/22)
10. Patrick Surtain II, CB, Alabama
The Cowboys brought back slot corner Jourdan Lewis, but there's still a hole at one of the outside spots, with Chidobe Awuzie walking in free agency. This selection could reunite former Alabama teammates Surtain and fellow CB Trevon Diggs. Surtain is the most fundamentally sound defensive back in this class. Offensive line is another position to watch -- particularly if Oregon's Penei Sewell is still on the board -- though Dallas could save that for Day 2.
CBS Sports - Wilson (3/22)
10. Penei Sewell, OT, Oregon
The Cowboys need to fix their defense but it will be hard to pass up on Sewell, who we've routinely had going in the top 5 each week. Dallas also has needs along the offensive line, and with a healthy Dak Prescott set to return, Sewell would be a great pick here.
PFF - Renner (3/22)
10. Caleb Farley, CB, Virginia Tech
The Cowboys have to have at least one outside corner with some speed, and Farley certainly has that. He also has the size and length that Dan Quinn covets in his defense. Farley was lights-out before opting out -- he allowed a passer rating of just 26.8 on throws into his coverage in 2019.
