New England Patriots Mock Draft Roundup 5.0

Throughout the year and leading up to the 2022 NFL Draft, we will update our New England Patriots Mock Draft Roundup showing picks for the New England Patriots from several prominent sites and draft analysts.

The following are picks in recent mock drafts for the Patriots:

SI - Hanson (3/11)

21. Devin Lloyd, LB, Utah

Lloyd can impact the game in a variety of ways with his ability to cover tight ends, get to the quarterback as a blitzer and defend the run. The Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year, Lloyd stuffed the stat sheet with 110 tackles, 22 TFLs, eight sacks and four interceptions in 2021. No coach should appreciate Lloyd's versatility more than Bill Belichick.

CBS Sports - Fornelli (3/11)

21. Devin Lloyd, LB, Utah

Lloyd has struck me as the kind of linebacker Bill Belichick loves for the last few seasons. He's physical, productive and versatile. He's an excellent tackler but can be a little too aggressive at times and overpursue ball-carriers and lose his gap, but there are far more positives than negatives here. With the right coach and in the right scheme, he could be a star.

San Diego Union Tribune - Brown (3/10)

21. Chris Olave, WR, Ohio State

My gut says Bill Belichick will go defense here, but the Patriots need to find Mac Jones a primary target. It's rare a route technician with reliable hands can also run as fast as Olave. The Mission Hills product might have made it into the first round had he left school last year and it wouldn't surprise me if he cracks the top-20.

The Draft Network - Crabbs (3/9)

21. Andrew Booth Jr., CB, Clemson

There appears to be some real traction that J.C. Jackson is on his way out the door, in which case the Patriots are going to need to find a replacement. With Booth Jr. now available thanks to the dominoes of Seattle now picking at No. 9, the Patriots have the perfect addition to add into the room here in the early 20s.

ESPN - McShay (3/9)

21. Nakobe Dean, LB, Georgia

This guy is perfect for the Patriots. With Dont'a Hightower hitting free agency, there's a spot open in the middle of that defense, too. New England's passing defense was stout in the 2021, but its 4.5 yards allowed per run tied for the eighth worst in the league. Dean has an incredible motor, fighting through blocks and making tackles in space. He has range both against the run and in coverage, and he can even contribute as a pass-rusher. I absolutely love watching his tape. Dean could be Bill Belichick's leader on defense, and his relentlessness and exceptional instincts will make him an instant-impact player.

NFL.com - Zierlein (3/8)

21. Kaiir Elam, CB, Florida

Elam plays a position of need for New England and possesses a combination of size, speed and intelligence that will be very appealing to Bill Belichick.

Touchdown Wire - Schofield (3/8)

21. Trent McDuffie, CB, Washington

With the news that cornerback J.C. Jackson is likely not going to find a long-term deal with the New England Patriots, cornerback rockets up the board of needs for Bill Belichick and company.

Thankfully for them, this is a strong class at that position.

Trent McDuffie is a fun player to watch on film. When you see him track down and close on crossing routes in man coverage situations, picking and weaving his way through traffic, you see how his game will translate to the NFL.

And when you've seen how those concepts have carved up the Patriots in the past, it is easy to connect the dots...
