New England Patriots Mock Draft Roundup 5.0
Throughout the year and leading up to the 2023 NFL Draft, we will update our New England Patriots Mock Draft Roundup showing picks for the New England Patriots from several prominent sites and draft analysts.
The following are picks in recent mock drafts for the Patriots:
NFL.com - Daniel Jeremiah (2/21)
14. Christian Gonzalez, CB, Oregon
Bill Belichick nabs a height-weight-speed corner who can play the ball.
USA Today - Nate Davis (2/20)
14. Jordan Addison, WR, USC
Bill Belichick's poor history drafting receivers can't be denied, but that doesn't change the fact a 20th-ranked passing offense doesn't have even a 600-yard receiver under contract going into 2023 with WRs Jakobi Meyers and Nelson Agholor on the way out. At 6 feet, 175 pounds, Addison's on the slight side but was highly productive at Pitt (100 catches for 1,593 yards and 17 TDs in 2021) before transferring to the Trojans and leading them with 59 grabs for 875 yards and eight scores last year despite missing time with an ankle injury. His ability to play wide or in the slot should appeal to Belichick.
CBS Sports - Ryan Wilson (2/20)
14. Quentin Johnston, WR, TCU
Johnston's an above-the-rim playmaker whose athleticism and contested-catch abilities make him in the running for WR1. Mac Jones has a new offensive coordinator and now he gets a new downfield target.
The Draft Network - Keith Sanchez (2/20)
14. Tyree Wilson, EDGE, Texas Tech
The Patriots should choose to surround Mac Jones with more weapons, but I think they stay true to their roots and address this defensive front. Tyree Wilson has a skill set perfect for Bill Belichick's multiple-front defense. The Patriots have some talent up front, but the way this team is currently constructed, I think their defense is going to have to be one of the best in the NFL for the Patriots to have the opportunity to make a deep playoff run.
SI - Kevin Hanson (2/17)
14. Brian Branch, S, Alabama
Branch could fill virtually any role in the secondary and has the versatility, intelligence and instincts that Bill Belichick covets. Branch is comfortable in coverage, a reliable tackler defending the run or screens and disruptive as a blitzer. A number of New England's defensive backs—Devin McCourty, Jabrill Peppers, Jonathan Jones—are slated for free agency.
The Athletic - CFB Writers (2/17)
14. Christian Gonzalez, CB, Oregon
The Patriots need a cornerback, and the 6-foot-2, 201-pound Gonzalez is arguably the best in this class. The former Oregon Duck had four interceptions in 2022, the most on his team and third-most in the Pac-12. His 118 return yards on those four picks were the most by an Oregon player since Steve Smith in 2001, and he earned first-team coaches' All-Pac-12 honors in 2022.
ESPN - Todd McShay (2/15)
14. Joey Porter Jr., CB, Penn State
With Jonathan Jones now a free agent, cornerback seems like a very possible Day 1 target for the Pats -- especially if none have come off the board by the time they pick. Porter had only one career interception at Penn State (in 2021), but he broke up 11 passes last season. He has length and plays a physical brand of football, rerouting receivers off the line of scrimmage and outmuscling them on 50-50 balls despite weighing just 198 pounds.
San Diego Union Tribune - Eddie Brown (2/15)
14. Joey Porter Jr., CB, Penn State
Jonathan Jones will be a free agent and will likely seek a raise, which usually means the Patriots will let him walk. The son of former All-Pro linebacker Joey Porter checks the size (6-2, 198) and physicality boxes. Plus, Junior's athleticism and talent pops when you watch him, but he'll need to refine his technique and develop more consistency to pay off his potential — his aggressive nature is a gift and a curse.
NFL.com - Chad Reuter (2/13)
14. Broderick Jones, OT, Georgia
New England's offensive tackle depth chart must be addressed, with Isaiah Wynn and Marcus Cannon approaching free agency. Jones is not the biggest tackle (6-4, 310), but he plays with attitude and possesses the strength and agility to line up outside in the NFL.
