Tennessee Titans Mock Draft Roundup 6.0
Throughout the year and leading up to the 2021 NFL draft, we will update our Tennessee Titans Mock Draft Roundup showing picks for the Tennessee Titans from several prominent sites and draft analysts.
EDSFootball - Hanson (3/5)
22. Azeez Ojulari, EDGE, Georgia
Only the Bengals (17) and Jaguars (18) recorded fewer sacks this season than the Titans (19). Only a redshirt sophomore, Ojulari is an ascending prospect with a chance to go (potentially much) higher than this. Leading the SEC with 9.5 sacks in 10 games, the 20-year-old edge rusher has three sacks and two forced fumbles in the team's bowl game against the Cincinnati Bearcats.
ESPN - McShay (3/4)
22. Jaelan Phillips, EDGE, Miami (FL)
Tennessee absolutely has to address the pass-rush problem. Teams with Super Bowl hopes can't finish No. 30 in the league in sacks with 19, especially considering four of those came in Week 17 against a bad Houston offensive line. They can't have zero players reach six sacks and just one record more than three. Phillips had eight last season at Miami, and his suddenness would give opponents something to worry about off the edge.
Turron Davenport on his fit with the Titans: Phillips will be an immediate contributor for the Titans even though they'll likely add a free-agent pass-rusher before the draft. His effectiveness both against the run and as an impact pass-rusher will get him early-game reps as a strongside linebacker when the Titans use an odd front. But also look for his hand in the dirt when Tennessee uses a four-man front.
CBS Sports - Trapasso (3/3)
15. Azeez Ojulari, EDGE, Georgia
After Paye goes off the board, the Titans want to get a part of the edge-rusher class and swing a deal with the Patriots to select the explosive, bendy, and decently refined Ojulari.
The Athletic - Beat Writers (3/1)
22. Azeez Ojulari, EDGE, Georgia
Even if the Titans spend another chunk of money on the pass rush during free agency as expected, they've got to invest a high pick in someone who can complement -- and ideally, exceed -- 2018 second-round pick Harold Landry on the outside for the next few years. If Ojulari is still there at No. 22, he'd be an easy choice. That is, as long as Titans brass can forgive whoever from Georgia told them all they wanted to hear about Isaiah Wilson, last year's disappointing first-round pick. Ojulari is a bit light at 240 pounds, but that also means versatility. He did some dropping in Georgia's 3-4 scheme and took a big step forward as a pass rusher in 2020 with 8.5 sacks. Ojulari could fit in nicely as the third guy to support Landry and the free-agent signing TBD. -- Joe Rexrode
Touchdown Wire - Farrar (2/26)
22. Azeez Ojulari, EDGE, Georgia
The failure of 2020 first-round right tackle Isaiah Wilson to get with the program in any sense leaves the Titans with obvious issues up front, but the real and obvious problem for Mike Vrabel's team is a pass rush that accomplished little to nothing last season. Only the Bengals and Jaguars had fewer sacks than Tennessee's 19, their 119 pressures ranked fifth-worst in the NFL, and only the Lions had a lower pressure rate than the Titans' 17.6%.
There should be several highly qualified edge-rushers in the bottom half of the first round to help Vrabel and his staff solve that problem, but in this case, I like the fit of Ojulari, who brings a dynamite combination of speed to the pocket, flexibility to dip and rip, and an advanced sense of hand use you don't often see in collegiate defensive linemen. He whipped his way through opposing SEC lines last season with 9.5 sacks, eight quarterback hits, and 20 quarterback hurries... in just 193 pass-rushing snaps. Tennessee needs a quick, easy, and obvious solution to its pass-rush problem, and Ojulari might just be the ticket.
NFL.com - Casserly (2/25)
22. Jalen Mayfield, OT, Michigan
With the sticky situation around 2020 first-round pick Isaiah Wilson, the Titans must make sure a potential void at right tackle is filled.
MLive.com - Meinke (2/25)
22. Azeez Ojulari, EDGE, Georgia
Tennessee tried to soup up its pass rush by throwing some money at Vic Beasley and Jadeveon Clowney last season. Eighteen games and a whopping zero sacks later, I guess you could say it didn't work. The Titans finished with 19 sacks as a team, which was actually fewer than Detroit. Yes, really.
San Diego Union Tribune (2/24)
22. Jaelan Phillips, EDGE, Miami (FL)
The Titans finished with only 19 sacks this season -- only the Bengals and Jaguars had fewer. Phillips stepped up in Rousseau's absence after transferring from UCLA. The former highly-touted recruit is a relentless pass rusher who produced eight sacks and 15.5 tackles for loss in 10 games as a Hurricane.
