2020 NFL Power Rankings: Atlanta Falcons

Throughout the 2020 NFL season, we will compile a consensus NFL Power Rankings that averages the rankings of all 32 NFL teams.

Here is where the Atlanta Falcons rank in terms of average, best and worst:

Below you will find a Week 7 roundup for the Falcons in our consensus 2020 NFL Power Rankings.

The Athletic -- Rank: 17

Huge discrepancy here. EPR was impressed with their win over the Vikings. I saw it as a one-game aberration.

I wanted to use this space to remember former ESPN Falcons reporter Vaughn McClure, who died last week at the age of 48. I don't remember the first time I met Vaughn, but I remember the second time because he marched up to me with a huge smile and gave me a big bear hug like we had been best friends for decades. That's what I got from Vaughn every time we crossed paths in the press box or at league events. He was as warm a person as I've come across in this business, the kind of guy who would message “miss you, bro” out of the blue. Many of you have probably read similar memories from others in the industry over the past week. We are all going to really miss having him around our little NFL bubble. The news of his death was crushing. RIP, Vaughn.

CBS Sports -- Rank: 25

The firing of Dan Quinn might have given this team some life. It certainly gave Matt Ryan and the offense life.

USA Today -- Rank: 24

Been nine years between head coaching wins for interim boss Raheem Morris, who's more deserving of a second chance than many retreads who have already enjoyed one.

ESPN -- Rank: 28

Most impactful injury: WR Julio Jones

The Falcons were without Jones for most of Week 4 and all of Week 5. Those two games were their two worst offensive performances of the season, with 16 points in both losses. With Jones back on Sunday, the Falcons put up 40 points, and Jones caught eight passes for 137 yards and two touchdowns en route to their first win of the season. -- Sarah Barshop

Change the coach, change your fortunes. The Falcons began the Raheem Morris "Youngry Mach II" era with a 40-23 blowout of the Vikings, Atlanta's first win of the season in six tries. Matt Ryan, the subject of trade speculation all week as the Falcons edge toward a complete rebuild, reminded the league he still has elite ability with a 371-yard, four-TD performance. Two of those scoring throws went to Julio Jones, another longtime franchise superstar who showed he still has plenty left in the tank. Falcons fans should savor the Ryan-Jones connection -- it's hard to say how much longer it will be around.
