2021 NFL Power Rankings: New York Giants

Throughout the 2021 NFL season, we will compile a consensus NFL Power Rankings that averages the rankings of all 32 NFL teams.

Here is where the New York Giants rank in terms of average, best and worst:

Below you will find a Week 1 roundup for the Giants in our consensus 2021 NFL Power Rankings.

ESPN -- Rank: 24

Person on the hot seat: GM Dave Gettleman

Fifteen wins in three seasons since he took over says it all. The Giants need to win some games in order for Gettleman to feel safe. A fourth straight losing year would not reflect well on the 70-year-old general manager, especially if the offensive line and/or quarterback were among the primary reasons for the team's failure. Gettleman's legacy ultimately rests on the success of Daniel Jones and an O-line that was supposed to be his top priority when he took the job four years ago. Both remain massive question marks for this organization. -- Jordan Raanan

NFL.com -- Rank: 24

Will the Giants have Saquon Barkley on the field when they open their 2021 season against the Broncos? Big Blue has brought its star running back along slowly following last year's surgery to repair a torn ACL, and there's a sense that the Giants will ease Barkley back into the mix in the initial weeks of the new season. The former No. 2 overall pick played a whopping 83 percent of New York's offensive snaps in his first two seasons -- it's fair to wonder if he'll ever see usage like that again. Devontae Booker -- signed on the opening day of free agency -- will be a key figure early on.

CBS Sports -- Rank: 24

This is a prove-it year for quarterback Daniel Jones. He has to show he's the long-term answer. Getting a healthy Saquon Barkley back will help. The concern is the line in front of him.

USA Today -- Rank: 22

RB Saquon Barkley and WR Kenny Golladay appear ready to ride to the rescue of QB Daniel Jones ... assuming this still suspect line doesn't get him buried.

The Athletic -- Rank: 25

Why they're ranked here: The Giants' defense should again be a top-10 unit, but there are a lot of questions offensively. Is Saquon Barkley going to be ready Week 1, and will he return as the same player who finished his rookie season in 2018 with more than 2,000 yards from scrimmage? Can New York's offensive line block anyone? What will Daniel Jones do? In an offense-oriented league, only three voters put the Giants in the top 20, despite a good defense.

One big question: Is Jones the guy? There were times as a rookie that Jones excelled and it seemed like the Giants had their quarterback of the future. But Jones finished last season with a putrid 11 touchdowns to 10 interceptions. In Year 3, he has to show a lot more.
