Throughout the 2020 NFL season, we will compile a consensus NFL Power Rankings that averages the rankings of all 32 NFL teams.
Here is where the San Francisco 49ers rank in terms of average, best and worst:
- Average ranking: 20.2 (19th)
- Best ranking: 16th (USA Today)
- Worst ranking: 27th (CBS Sports)
Below you will find a Week 12 roundup for the 49ers in our consensus 2020 NFL Power Rankings.
The Athletic -- Rank: 20
Be thankful for: A potentially explosive upcoming offseason. The Athletic's Matt Barrows ranked all of the 49ers' potential quarterback scenarios this offseason. He thinks there's at least a 40 percent chance that the team moves on from Jimmy Garoppolo -- whether that means replacing him with a veteran or a quarterback taken in the first round. Remember, the 49ers have not been afraid to make bold moves. They traded DeForest Buckner in the offseason after going to the Super Bowl. Something tells me San Francisco might take a big swing in the months ahead.
CBS Sports -- Rank: 27
They come off their bye needing to win five of six to likely have a playoff shot. It starts with a tough road game against the Rams.
USA Today -- Rank: 16
Needed reinforcements could be on way coming out of bye week – Raheem Mostert, Tevin Coleman and Deebo Samuel all on cusp of rejoining stagnant offense.
ESPN -- Rank: 17
What they're thankful for: LB Fred Warner
Since good health certainly isn't on the list of things the Niners can be thankful for this season, their appreciation for their middle linebacker's continued ascent to stardom undoubtedly is. While much of their star power has been lost to injury, Warner has been the one constant in the middle of the defense, offering durability, productivity and leadership in large doses. Warner is finally getting the recognition he deserves as one of the league's best linebackers and is in line for a massive contract extension, perhaps as soon as the coming offseason. -- Nick Wagoner

"I expect Jimmy to be our starter next year. I expect him to come and play with us this year." Those were the words of Kyle Shanahan, who last week attempted to throw cold water on rampant speculation the 49ers might look to move on from Jimmy Garoppolo in the offseason. Jimmy G is still nursing a high-ankle sprain that has sidelined him for the 49ers' last two games, and it's unclear if he's already played his last down this season. Shanahan expects to see his QB again, and you wonder if a return in December would turn into something of an audition for the quarterback who very nearly won a Super Bowl in February. Change happens fast in the NFL.
