New Orleans Saints Mock Draft Roundup 5.0

Throughout the year and leading up to the 2021 NFL draft, we will update our New Orleans Saints Mock Draft Roundup showing picks for the New Orleans Saints from several prominent sites and draft analysts.

The following are picks in recent mock drafts for the Saints:

NFL.com - Zierlein (2/4)

28. Tyson Campbell, CB, Georgia

Campbell, a former high school sprint champ, has outstanding length and long speed and exciting upside, but might need some time to gain the polish required to cover in the NFL.

NFL.com - Brooks (2/1)

28. Trevon Moehrig, S, TCU

Marcus Williams is a pending free agent and while Malcolm Jenkins is an iron man, he can't play forever. The Saints add a needed young piece at safety in Moehrig.

Akron Beacon Journal - Kadar (2/1)

28. Mac Jones, QB, Alabama

Even as we wait to hear about Drew Brees' retirement decision, the Saints would be smart to take Jones even if the veteran comes back for another year. Jones reportedly had an excellent week of Senior Bowl practices before missing Saturday's game with an injury. The critique about Jones is that he's a product of an Alabama team loaded with weapons. With Michael Thomas and Alvin Kamara, the shelf isn't exactly bare in New Orleans.

The Ringer - Kelly (1/31)

28. Mac Jones, QB, Alabama

With Drew Brees reportedly planning to retire, the Saints find themselves at a major franchise crossroads. Jameis Winston (who is set to enter free agency) and Taysom Hill both offer potential in 2021 and beyond, but Sean Payton and Co. must cast a wide net in the search for Brees's long-term successor―and that's why they grab Jones here. The Heisman finalist lacks elite physical traits, but is a highly efficient pocket passer who could thrive in Payton's scheme.

USA Today - Davis (1/28)

28. Joe Tryon, EDGE, Washington

Numerous questions in The Big Easy with QB Drew Brees poised to retire, per multiple reports, and a salary cap that needs a major haircut. The defensive line is also going to take a hit with DT Sheldon Rankins and DE Trey Hendrickson (career-high 13 1/2 sacks) both slated to walk. Tryon had eight sacks when he last played in 2019 and would maintain the pass rush depth behind DEs Cam Jordan and Marcus Davenport.

ESPN - Kiper (1/26)

28. Trevon Moehrig, S, TCU

It's really hard to project what the Saints are going to do because their offseason is in flux. They don't have any salary-cap space to make moves. These are of some of their pending free agents: Marcus Williams, Trey Hendrickson, Jameis Winston, Jared Cook, Sheldon Rankins and P.J. Williams. And then there's the Drew Brees dilemma, as the 42-year-old quarterback could retire. Moehrig, the top safety in my rankings, would be the successor to 33-year-old Malcolm Jenkins. He had six interceptions over the past two seasons. Again, though, this pick is more about projecting for the Saints' current needs, which could be very different in April.

NFL.com - Jeremiah (1/22)

28. Nick Bolton, LB, Missouri

Bolton is a run-and-hit linebacker with outstanding range. The Saints are getting a little older at the second level of their defense and need to add some speed.

Baltimore Sun - Doon (1/22)

28. Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, LB, Notre Dame

Kwon Alexander's return from an Achilles tendon injury is questionable, and Alex Anzalone is set to hit free agency, leaving a hole in the middle of the Saints defense. Owusu-Koramoah is only 215 pounds, but the rangy Butkus Award winner would be free to play more of a hybrid role next to Demario Davis.
