New York Giants Mock Draft Roundup 3.0
Throughout the year and leading up to the 2023 NFL Draft, we will update our New York Giants Mock Draft Roundup showing picks for the New York Giants from several prominent sites and draft analysts.
The following are picks in recent mock drafts for the Giants:
CBS Sports - Stackpole (1/13)
23. Jaxon Smith-Njigba, WR, Ohio State
It's looking more and more like the Giants and Daniel Jones are going to agree to some sort of extension. To truly know if he's the franchise quarterback, they have to surround him with high-caliber skill players. Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who may have been the consensus No. 1 wide receiver if he didn't get hurt, fits the bill.
San Diego Union Tribune - Brown (1/12)
22. Jaxon Smith-Njigba, WR, Ohio State
The G-Men have dealt with many injuries and much disappointment at wide receiver since they traded Odell Beckham Jr. The Buckeyes had two receivers drafted in the first 11 picks last April and Smith-Njigba out-produced both as a sophomore. An injury-riddled season has dampened his draft stock, but if he checks out during the draft process, he likely won't have to wait too long to hear his name called.
NBC Sports Chicago - Morgan (1/12)
23. Jalin Hyatt, WR, Tennessee
New York requires a consistent and dependable downfield threat to help its anemic and imbalanced offensive attack.Hyatt possesses phenomenal speed and make-you-miss agility, consistently frustrating defenders' attempts to stop him in the open field. His ability to accelerate and decelerate makes him dangerous either from the slot position or as a boundary receiver. The 2022 Biletnikoff Award recipients upside oozes with vast untapped potential that could provide an immediate impact.
Yahoo! Sports - McDonald (1/11)
23. Jordan Addison, WR, USC
Brian Daboll and Mike Kafka got the Giants' offense moving in the right direction, but they could still use help at receiver. Addison is a talented, experienced receiver who can start for the Giants right away.
Walter Football (1/11)
22. Cam Smith, CB, South Carolina
The Giants need to replace James Bradberry, which is something they could do with their first-round selection.
Cam Smith is a fast cornerback with long arms.
CBS Sports - Trapasso (1/11)
23. Jaxon Smith-Njigba, WR, Ohio State
The Giants are glad to stop Smith-Njigba's fall here to give Daniel Jones another receiving weapon.
USA Today - MMS (1/10)
22. Jaxon Smith-Njigba, WR, Ohio State
Big decisions are ahead for Big Blue, as the team will have to navigate the impending free agency of Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley. Assuming the Giants' brain trust hangs on to both, the next order of business should be finding a receiver who can create the separation that was so hard to come by for this position group in 2022. No problem there for Smith-Njigba, a smooth route runner who should be a shoo-in for the first round despite missing all but three games in 2022 with a hamstring injury.
Bleacher Report (1/9)
22. Clark Phillips III, CB, Utah
The New York Giants organization have significant decisions to make regarding the statuses of quarterback Daniel Jones and running back Saquon Barkley after the team's postseason appearance is complete.
As of now, the assumption is both will be back next season under some combination of the franchise tag or some sort of extension. Though who will land what is far less predictable.
Until those moves are known, the defense can receive more attention.
"The Giants currently have starting cornerbacks with experience and age," Giddings noted. "They have tried to bring in younger guys in the past, such as Sam Beal and DeAndre Baker, but they haven't panned out for them.
"With Utah's Clark Phillips II, New York brings in a younger, versatile performer with the ability to play in the slot and outside the numbers. The Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year is a dynamic player who brings lockdown coverage, as well as providing elite return ability. The only negative to Phillips' game is his lack of size at a listed 5'10" and 183 pounds."
Coming out of this season, Fabian Moreau is a free agent. Adoree' Jackson and Darnay Holmes will enter the final year of their current deals. Those are the team's top three corners with no long-term plan at the position. An addition the caliber of Phillips is a necessity to steady the secondary.
The 33rd Team (1/9)
23. Jalin Hyatt, WR, Tennessee
The Giants need an outside threat at receiver. There is no other player in this draft who can threaten a defense with speed like Hyatt, who ran a 10.46 100-meter back in 2019. He averaged 18.9 yards per catch and hauled in 15 TD passes.
PFF - Renner (1/9)
23. Jordan Addison, WR, USC
The Giants flat-out need a receiver who can get open. That's the former Biletnikoff Award winner's game. He racked up 2,468 yards and 25 scores over the past two seasons because of that. Addison is a player a team can start building a receiving corps around.
