2022 NFL Power Rankings: New Orleans Saints

Throughout the 2022 NFL season, we will compile a consensus NFL Power Rankings that averages the rankings of all 32 NFL teams.

Here is where the New Orleans Saints rank in terms of average, best and worst:

Below you will find a post-Super Bowl 56 roundup for the Saints in our consensus 2022 NFL Power Rankings.

ESPN -- Rank: 22

Offseason in three or fewer words: Coach and quarterback

Yeah, yeah -- these are the two most important things for every NFL team to get right. But this is new territory for the Saints, who had it made for so long with Sean Payton and Drew Brees. So they have to nail those two decisions above all else with the hire of coach Dennis Allen and a QB yet to be named. But they've made it clear they don't plan to go into any sort of rebuilding mode, despite some daunting salary-cap constraints. In fact, it wouldn't be surprising to see them aim for the top of the QB market to pair with one of the NFL's best defenses. -- Mike Triplett

NFL.com -- Rank: 18

Drew Brees exited the building after 2020. Sean Payton followed the legendary QB out the door after 2021. The promotion of longtime defensive coordinator Dennis Allen to head coach lends a sense of internal stability for the team, but there's no mistaking the fact that this is a time of immense transition for one of the most successfully run organizations of the past 15 years. New Orleans has an immediate decision to make at quarterback. Jameis Winston is recovering from reconstructive knee surgery and is slated for free agency, while Taysom Hill continues to operate as the team's hypothetical Option B. The smart move might be an entirely fresh start at the position.

CBS Sports -- Rank: 18

The Sean Payton era in New Orleans is over. Dennis Allen is now running things, but he faces a major question: Who plays quarterback?

USA Today -- Rank: 19

Let's not forget they've won seven consecutive regular-season games against the Buccaneers and still have a dominant D designed by new head coach Dennis Allen. If the 2022 season started today, who you taking to win the NFC South? Thought so.

The Athletic -- Rank: 18

The Saints promoted defensive coordinator Dennis Allen to head coach following Sean Payton's surprising decision to step down. Allen certainly understands how Payton ran the team as well as the Saints' culture, but it would be naive to think Payton's departure won't have a major impact on New Orleans in 2022, especially since it still needs to settle on its starting quarterback.
