Los Angeles Chargers Mock Draft Roundup 7.0
Throughout the year and leading up to the 2021 NFL draft, we will update our Los Angeles Chargers Mock Draft Roundup showing picks for the Los Angeles Chargers from several prominent sites and draft analysts.
The following are picks in recent mock drafts for the Chargers:
EDSFootball - Donahue (3/23)
13. Christian Darrisaw, OT, Virginia Tech
The Chargers at least addressed the offensive line last week and made a big upgrade by signing Corey Linsley and Matt Fieler, but that didn't solve all their issues along the line. Darrisaw is widely considered one of, if not the best pure blocker in this class as he consistently got better during his three years as a starter at Virginia Tech. Blocking for franchise QB Justin Herbert should be the Chargers' top priority.
NFL.com - Brooks (3/23)
13. Kyle Pitts, TE, Florida
The ultra-athletic pass catcher would give Justin Herbert another weapon to target on the perimeter.
The Athletic - Beat Writers (3/23)
13. Rashawn Slater, OT, Northwestern
This is an utter dream scenario for the Chargers. They beefed up their offensive line with two big free-agent signings -- center Corey Linsley and guard Matt Feiler -- and the biggest remaining hole up front is at left tackle. Slater would slide in as the immediate starter there, replacing Sam Tevi. The Chargers would have a tough decision to make if Slater is off the board. They could go with Virginia Tech's Christian Darrisaw, the more prototypical tackle, or USC's Alijah Vera-Tucker, who some believe will project better as a guard. In this mock, they do not have to decide. Slater, the second-best tackle prospect in the class, falls. And the Chargers add even more talent to an offensive line that was among the worst in football last year, which improves both the protection in front of Justin Herbert and the efficiency of their running game. -- Daniel Popper
ESPN - Kiper (3/22)
13. Rashawn Slater, OT, Northwestern
The Chargers have upgraded their offensive line in free agency with center Corey Linsley and tackle Matt Feiler, but I'd still take Slater if I were general manager Tom Telesco. That's how bad this line was in front of rookie quarterback Justin Herbert. As far as I'm concerned, only Linsley and right tackle Bryan Bulaga are locks for their positions, and Slater could battle for the left tackle job with Feiler or move inside. There are some teams that see Slater as the best guard in this class, even after he starred at left tackle for Northwestern. (He opted out of the 2020 season.) I don't think there's any way Florida tight end Kyle Pitts makes it to No. 13, but he would be a great fit for the Chargers.
CBS Sports - Wilson (3/22)
20. Kwity Paye, EDGE, Michigan
The Chargers addressed their offensive line early in free agency, and also added a short-term solution at tight end with Jared Cook. So it would make some sense to address the pass-rush position here, especially after trading down and still finding Kwity Paye on the board.
PFF - Renner (3/22)
13. DeVonta Smith, WR, Alabama
This is how you compete with the Chiefs in the AFC West -- you counter with your own juggernaut offense. Smith's talent does not need any false praise after his Heisman campaign. He is a bonafide stud and brings a little more to the table vertically than both Mike Williams and Keenan Allen, as well.
