2022 NFL Power Rankings: Seattle Seahawks
Throughout the 2022 NFL season, we will compile a consensus NFL Power Rankings that averages the rankings of all 32 NFL teams.
Below you will find a Week 6 roundup for the Seattle Seahawks in our consensus 2022 NFL Power Rankings.
ESPN -- Rank: 20
Chance to make the playoffs: 4.7%
Chance to win their division: 1.6%
The Seahawks are in the throes of another terrible defensive start. They're dead last in yards allowed per play and 31st in points allowed per game, including a combined 84 over the past two weeks. The Seahawks have needed every bit of brilliant play that Geno Smith has given them to escape with two narrow victories over the first five games. The only reason for hope that they can turn things around is that they've done so after similarly poor starts in each of the past two seasons. But there aren't any obvious signs another turnaround is coming.

The Seahawks are an entertaining team, but a consistently overmatched defense might stop them from being anything more than that. A week after getting pushed around by the Jared Goff-led Lions, it was the Saints' turn -- Taysom Hill (accounted for four touchdowns) and Alvin Kamara (194 total yards) did pretty much whatever they wanted in a 39-32 Seattle loss. It's a shame, too, because Geno Smith continues to defy expectations as one of the NFL's best passers through five weeks. Geno will be without a key piece going forward: Rashaad Penny is done for the year after fracturing his fibula on Sunday. Penny is a talented player who can't shake the injury bug.
CBS Sports -- Rank: 27
Geno Smith continues to play well, but their defense is terrible. Each week looks like it could be a shootout for this team.
USA Today -- Rank: 21
They averaged 8.1 yards per play Sunday ... and lost. Bet Pete Carroll never would have guessed he'd have the most accurate quarterback in the league — Geno Smith is completing 75.2% of his passes — but the worst defense, one allowing 430 yards per week.
The Athletic -- Rank: 24
Trade idea: Panthers cornerback C.J. Henderson
Maybe we're going too far with the Panthers fire sale, but there are only so many obvious sellers in a league with 26 of 32 teams within one game of a nominal playoff spot. Henderson is the Panthers' third corner behind Jaycee Horn and Donte Jackson, and Blitz knows the Seahawks could use any help they could get on defense. They rank 31st in defensive DVOA and 31st in pass defense DVOA despite the intriguing start of Tariq Woolen's career. Henderson, the 2020 first-round pick, still has another year and a half left on his rookie deal.

The Ringer -- Rank: 23
Seattle's defense owes Geno Smith an apology. The Seahawks rank 31st in total points allowed (154) and 32nd in yards per play allowed (6.55) through five weeks, while their quarterback is absolutely dealing. Smith is far exceeding any game-manager label, especially after connecting on multiple downfield throws against the Saints on Sunday. He currently ranks third among starters in EPA per dropback (0.19) and first in PFF grade (90.2). The defense is going to keep the Seahawks near the bottom of the league, but Smith is doing everything he can and then some to keep the team in games every week.
Yahoo! -- Rank: 26
Rashaad Penny is done for the season with a broken leg, and that's a rough break for a player who has flashed elite talent when healthy. Kenneth Walker III steps in and that shouldn't be much of a step back for a surprisingly good offense.
PFT -- Rank: 24
The offense is better than it's been in years. Too bad the defense stinks.
