Pittsburgh Steelers Mock Draft Roundup 3.0

Throughout the year and leading up to the 2022 NFL Draft, we will update our Pittsburgh Steelers Mock Draft Roundup showing picks for the Pittsburgh Steelers from several prominent sites and draft analysts.

The following are picks in recent mock drafts for the Steelers:

CBS Sports - Chris Trapasso (1/20)

20. Kenyon Green, IOL, Texas A&M

Green is a mauler at guard. Regardless of what the Steelers do at quarterback for the 2022 season, they have to get better in the trenches.

ESPN - Mel Kiper (1/19)

20. Matt Corral, QB, Mississippi

Like the Saints, the Steelers could immediately contend if they can figure out their quarterback position this offseason. Ben Roethlisberger appears likely to retire. I don't see backups Mason Rudolph or Dwayne Haskins as NFL starters. They do have a strong core on both sides of the ball, though. If they acquire a veteran signal-caller via free agency or in a trade, this could be a spot to target a linemen to help a below-average O-line, but let's assume for now that they go into the draft without adding one.

Corral fits the mentality of what Mike Tomlin wants from his team. He's tough. He took a beating in multiple games in 2021, even running 30 times for 195 yards in a win over Tennessee. Oh, and he's a stellar passer, too, with touch, accuracy and arm strength. At 6-foot, he's not the biggest quarterback, but he threw 20 touchdown passes and just five picks this season. Corral sprained his ankle in the Rebels' bowl game but should be fine to work out at the combine. Because he hasn't yet graduated from school, he's the only one of the top QBs who won't be at the Senior Bowl, but he'll get his chance to show his skill set in front of scouts later.

The Athletic - Dane Brugler (1/19)

20. Sam Howell, QB, North Carolina

With Ben Roethlisberger likely having played his final game in a Steelers' uniform, there is a "Quarterback Wanted" sign hanging on the front of Heinz Field. Although Howell's junior season didn't go exactly according to plan, he has NFL-level arm talent and mobility and is ready to step in as the Steelers' starter from day one.

PFF - Austin Gayle (1/17)

20. Kenny Pickett, QB, Pittsburgh

A consistent knock on Pickett will be that he's a fifth-year senior and one of the older quarterback prospects in the 2022 class, but that shouldn't keep him from being a top-20 pick in April's draft. A finalist for the Heisman Trophy, Pickett completed 334-of-499 attempts for 4,308 yards, 42 touchdowns and seven interceptions this season. He earned a career-high 92.3 PFF grade that ranked top-five among all quarterbacks in 2021. His PFF passing grade from a clean pocket was also among the best in all of college football at 94.3.

Baltimore Sun - C.J. Doon (1/14)

19. Tyler Linderbaum, IOL, Iowa

It's hard to pinpoint who the Steelers will target with their first-round pick, especially because general manager Kevin Colbert is expected to retire. They could use help at cornerback, linebacker and offensive line, and quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is likely hanging up his cleats, too. A top-20 pick on a center might seem like a reach, but the 6-3, 290-pound Linderbaum is a dominant lineman who can help get the running game back on track.

Athlon Sports - Bryan Fischer (1/13)

20. Desmond Ridder, QB, Cincinnati

The Big Ben era looks to be over and none of the team's backups have proven worthy of being the successor. Ridder is far from a finished product but his arm and physical attributes could allow for a better pro career than an already great college one.

San Diego Union Tribune - Eddie Brown (1/13)

20. Sam Howell, QB, North Carolina

Ben Roethlisberger will likely call it quits at the end of this season. Howell possesses impressive arm talent and proved he is a legitimate threat as a runner this season despite failing to meet big expectations. He also recently accepted an invitation to play in the Senior Bowl. His performance in Mobile will impact his draft stock significantly.

USA Today - Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz (1/12)

20. Sam Howell, QB, North Carolina

After a storied run as the Steelers' general manager, Kevin Colbert is in line to step down after one more draft, according to multiple reports. The most pressing task left: Bring on a quarterback who can keep Pittsburgh in playoff contention upon taking over for Ben Roethlisberger. Like many other passers in this class, Howell might prove to be a divisive prospect, as his highlights in the deep passing game come with questions about how his decision-making will translate to the NFL. While Pittsburgh might have to endure growing pains if the team turns to him as a starter early, going with Howell has to be a serious consideration for a team that lacks many readily apparent options for a successor to its longtime signal-caller.

For The Win - Charles McDonald (1/12)

20. Kenyon Green, IOL, Texas A&M

The Steelers get an interior upgrade for an offensive line that sorely needs it. Najee Harris and the Steelers' next quarterback would benefit from this.

The Draft Network - Joe Marino (1/10)

20. Kenyon Green, IOL, Texas A&M

The Steelers have been retooling their offensive line and the work isn't yet complete with more investments still to be made. That said, the overhaul would be closer to completion by landing a talent like Kenyon Green.

Green is experienced at guard and tackle with plenty of appeal at both spots at the next level, allowing his team to get the best five blockers on the field. He is a technician with good size and power with the makings of a fixture for years to come as an impact starter in the NFL.
